Truck buyers are losing their loyalty, and mostly because they say trucks are too expensive and quality is slipping.

But among those who still feel the love, the most brand-loyal buyers own Toyotatrucks.

That’s according to a new survey done in the U.S. by CarGurus, which found brand loyalty among truck buyers has dropped from a similar 2018 survey.

In the 2019 survey, 70 per cent of truck owners said they would switch brands if their preferred brand raised truck prices by US$10,000. Last year, only 64 per cent would do so.

Those who currently own Toyota trucks are the most brand-loyal, with 41 per cent unwilling to consider anything else. The least brand-loyal were those who owned Chevrolet and Ford trucks, with only 28 and 27 per cent, respectively, unwilling to look elsewhere.

The survey also found that 68 per cent of truck owners believe trucks are overpriced, and 48 per cent think trucks aren’t as well-made as they used to be. However, 54 per cent did say they appreciate how high-tech their trucks have become.

Of those surveyed who currently own trucks, 17 per cent said they probably won’t buy another. Among those who ditched their trucks, 37 per cent now own a crossover or SUV, while 35 per cent moved into a sedan.

“With pickup truck prices on the rise, many others are reconsidering their current brands, or in some cases, whether they will repurchase a pickup at all,” said Madison Gross, CarGurus’ director of consumer insights.

Mind you, the survey only questioned 1,067 people, and of those, only 581 currently own at least one pickup truck. In the first two months of 2019, Canadians purchased 47,703 full-size and midsize pickup trucks, with Ford’s F-Series at the front of the pack.

I'm on my 4th Toyota truck in the last 20 yrs straight. Yes, I loved them all. Totally dependable, none ever had issues to go back to the dealer. I've had my share of Chevy and ford before Toyota. They were all junk!

The same could be said about Toyotas, it's all subjective to one persons experience. For me I own two Toyota trucks a 2012 Tacoma and a 2017 Tundra, both bought new by me.

The Tacoma had AIP issue at 29k, and again at 53k and Toyota would not cover and tried to stick me with a $2400 repair bill, I fixed myself for parts cost. They did 3 years later own up to the bad parts and issued a refund to those who footed a repair bill.

The Tundra cam tower leak at 21k, only vehicle I have ever had and engine torn down for a repair under 200k.

So from my experience its not going to well as I had some pretty major repairs at relatively low mileage. I will say these trucks "age" well and they are as sound as the day I bought them concerning squeaks, rattles..etc.

Trucks as a whole are getting out of hand and they are starting to outprice those who have faithfully bought trucks as more and more turn to the fullsize pickup instead of there luxury sedan.

I'm on my 4th Toyota truck in the last 24 yrs. When I was replacing my wrecked '07 Tundra in December with a lightly used truck I looked at Chevy's also. Couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger on anything other than Toyota. I'm a big GM truck fan but that is from years past. They have become a crappy company and not fond of their post bailout antics.

Theres a reason for part of that loyalty.

Ford *spit* owners are assholes. Toyota owners are awesome.

Spend 10 minutes on the F150*spit* forum and 10 minutes on Tundras. Case closed.

I'm 40 fixing to be 41. My 1st Toyota was a 84 2wd pickup when I was 16. Bought my 1st new truck when I turned 18, a 96 Tacoma 4wd regular cab. Been driving Toyota's ever since. I WILL NEVER WASTE MY MONEY ON ANYTHING ELSE!!!!! Toyota for life. The tundra is my favorite so far. Love driving more and more every day.

Our upper price point is their entry price point

    Not nearly enough room here!
Been there, done that. Glad my Grand Daughters weren't able to read some of the stuff I was called, when I asked a simple question, concerning Tundra/F-150 Timing Chain or Timing Belt! I joined the F-150 Owner's forum back in 2009, when I was shopping for my truck. Mentioning the Tundra really got some of those inbreeds upset.

Sounds about right. I had problem after problem with my truck. Those idiots kept telling me the same thing the dealership said "This is all normal for these trucks". When I called them out about $6000+ in warranty work within 1 year of ownership and under 50,000kms total on the truck as being normal, you'd think I was Satan incarnate. Either that or a liar.

I actually ended up back on the forum a little over a year ago after an email notification showed someone had responded in one of my old threads asking if I'd sorted out the issue. When I said I had, and that my solution was to buy a 1st Gen Tundra, I'm sure the wailing and gnashing of teeth could have been heard around the world.

I have all the serivce records from my Tundra from the previous (original) owner and for awhile I had the ones from the F1-Shitty. In 14 years, my 2005 Tundra with 175,000kms on it has spent less time in the shop for repairs than the 2013 F1-Shitty did in 2 years and 40,000kms I owned it. It was purchased 1 year old at 31,000kms or so and sold at 72,000kms.

Posting pics of that got the thread deleted and me banned from the forum. :D

That's why I'm hanging onto my 07 Ronald. Super low miles, 96K+, no leaks except for water pump has been seeping for quite some time. I top off maybe a 1/2 cup every 3 months. I already have a new pump for the time I have to add too much. Close to retirement and no way can I afford a new truck that I won't be happy with. I enjoy modding what I can. Slow process but quite enjoyable..
