What I learned from those automatic cloth car washes is that dirt or debris or whatever gets caught in the cloth from washing other cars and then they’re just slapping your car with dirt or whatever and it’s just scratching your car so it’s just not worth it

My car wash removes the antenna. My black Tacoma was only hand washed. The quicksand tundra goes through and looks great.

FWIW, I have had 3 incidences where the automatic car washes has ripped antennas right out of the socket or broken them off. Tundras have that little pocket the base goes in and its a pain to get the little stud out once it's snapped off in there.

I avoid them with my 2016 now, but up here winter salt is brutal and the hand wash places are few and far between.

If you can take antenna off you should...

There’s one near me. It’s good for rinsing pollen off or dust, but doesn’t really clean it.

As others have said, automatic washes that aren’t touchless are horrible for your paint. For someone who isn’t worried about it, and just wants to keep it relatively clean, relatively easily, go ahead. I used to use them all the time with my old Tundra. You can definitely tell though. It’s marred up like crazy.

To answer the question, take your antenna off, fold your mirrors in. The one I used to use actually had a guy out front who took it off for you and handed it to you through the window.

My mom had one break off in a car wash in her old car.

I was going to suggest the same. IMO, stay away from washes that touch.

My 13' won't fit in an automatic carwash. It is too wide! That's okay though, handwashing it is better any ways!

I only use a nearby touchless carwash and choose the under body wash option also. Better than nothing on warmer winter days up here. I’ve had horrible results with paint scratches in the past when a Toyota dealer decided to provide a free car wash after a service in their ancient full contact car wash.

One of the main things I go to the wash for. Getting the mag chloride off the undercarriage. That stuff is nasty.
