While putting 20190324_115859.jpg everything back together after timing belt and water pump I found this washer. I was careful as I usually am but I dont remember this . Found on floor where I laid a couple parts that were replaced most were laid on a table but some that were not to be reused were on floor. Possibly could be from something else but I usually make sure area around where I work starts out clean. It is about an inch diameter a1/2 inch hole and it is beveled as you can see on one side , other side is flat and the outer edge is grooved

I did water pump and timing belt on a 05 4runner V8 were the previous tech did not installed the washer/spacer that went on the timing belt tensioner to block so new belt slipped off cause the tensioner was locked down could not tension belt. Just throwing that out their, but then again it looks like the washer that holds the rubber bushing from a shock

Thanks for your advise joe but if youve ever done any sort of mechanical work as I have for over 40 years you will on occasion have a bit of a head scratcher. Ive rebuilt several engines, manual transmissions , tractor rear differentials , restored around twenty autos from ground up including mechanical and paint and body , countless lawnmower repairs even a few aircraft and probably a few times or on occassion I have over looked things but generally figure them out but I have never had to find a new mechanic.

That looks like a washer for shock bushings as stated above. I don’t believe there’s anything like that on the timing area. I’ll check before I leave the house since mines all apart

Well I was confident it was not from this timing chain job . I Sorta had to make up a harmonic balancer puller ( I thought till it pretty much slipped off ) so I had an assortment of bolts and washers to make up my puller and dug through my ole odd parts bin I ve had for 40 years and probably pulled this out thinking it might be useful as a thick washer on a bolt that was a bit longer than the other , atleast that is what im thinking . I had old cardboard set up with a diagram drawn where I poked bolts through to remember where they go with washers intact except for the afore mentioned timing belt idler which was removed and replaced all at same time . Any way with all that is removed on this job it could be easy to overlook or perhaps drop something with out knowing it just like the washer on the back of the left timinh belt pulley (right when facing engine from front of truck) which I almost did .and I did make sure it was installed bu tr tr hanks for the advise Eddie. I will finish by saying I have no problem asking questions even though I have done this sorta thing for 40 plus years. I am the type that rechecks everything . I Do payroll for our company and I cant tell you how many stamped and sealed envelopes I have torn open just to make sure I signed or dated a check only to find out they were ok.I have developed or learned many ways to do things and learn something new all the time from others . That is why I love these forums where even if you have a life time of experience doing mechanics you will definitely get some good advise.

Been there multiple times after big jobs! Lol and it’s almost always something left over from a tool or something

I had to stop working on truck several times over the weekend to move a stump and tree I had dug up some time ago , wife was begging me to get out of yard , ended up cutting more trees down . I had gone to Oreillys yesterday and bought new idler pulley and tried to get a whole new tensioner but all they said they had was tensioner pulley. Got back home and tensioner pulley was wrong, took back and they checked it and said it was correct. I took old one and the difference is where bolt and washer fit, the old one was more slanted inward and the new one was sorta curved and the washer would not sit correctly. I saw on the screen they did infact sell the whole tensioner and the pulley was just like the one they sold me . It should work, just a little different design on pulley but same diameter as original. I ordered it and suppose to get it in by 4:30 today. These are gates parts btw.
