I was driving in a predominantly snowy part of Colorado, snow everywhere and you couldn't see the pavement. I was in 4Hi, and when my front passenger side wheel hit a small dry patch maybe the length of the truck and width of the tire, I heard a loud pop. Now when I'm in 4Hi it seems like the truck drags alot, and I'm guessing I messed something up in the transfer case. Is there an easy way to verify what part, if anything was messed up?

Were you turning or just going straight? Or were the tires spinning at that time and then the one tire grabbed traction?

Does everything feel normal when you turn with 4x off? Check your CV joints. Seems odd that it would break in that circumstance but anything can happen.

it was a shit show in CO today, i would re check with 4x4 off, like 15wh said and then check again with it on to see if there is a difference, if it happens with 4x4 on again there is your starting point, T case, CV etc

    None, yet....
Speaking from experience here, but if you destroyed a transfer case, you’d know it. Like immediately. I have split several, in my different directions. Wanted to ease your mind a bit.

Otherwise, just do what the other guys said. Check in 2wd, 4hi, and go to a dirt road and check 4lo. May be just the ADD is stuck on, but you should have a light. Otherwise, check the mechanical stuff.

All of the above. ^^^^^. Any unwanted dash lights appear? Nannies on or off when it happened? Unfortunately the blizzard shit show is still going on. No dirt roads today or tomorrow......
