Hi. Any news about toyteck boss 2.5 being or becoming available for the 1st gen. I heard that they are being tested from tech support. But also heard that there’s no plans ......

@NeverEndingProject at this moment in time, there is very "mild" talk of doing a 2.5 but honestly nothing soon. Its a very small market and hard to justify creating such performance coilover systems...

As stated in the email you sent in, you could go with the KING, or ICON setups if you are looking for a 2.5 coilover, we can do custom spring rates to help support the weight of your Tundra.

Hum. My current toyteck. The 2.0? The ones w. The collars at the bottom, 4 y. Old. Only 12k miles on them (W the 650 springs); are not dead jet. But. I may be able to get 3-6 months more.

The progressive rate of the icons, the fact that as faster you go the softer they go, may not be the best for me. My truck is 800lbs heavier than stock. Def need 700lbs coils. But the boss 2.5 sounded perfect for me.

I’m glad that I discovered the super bumps from wheelers offroad, they help tons with the weight and the force that addes to hitting uneven Terrain.....

Not sure if the icons w. 700lbs coils will be better for me than the boss 2.5. I’m a slow outlander type of a driver. Not a fast offroad driver. And I heard that the icons are better for that

I can hang a few months. But can’t wait forever for 2.5. Don’t want to rush to spend money on icons and have bottoming out or bumping issues a faster driver speeds, or wear them out fast because my weight. .....

Advise and opinions are welcome. Not an expert. Just repeating what I have read online.

I could just do another set of boss 2.0 with 700 coils...... but I’m ready for something better. Besides , the super bumps get on the way to adjust the collars. I’ll have to remove the s. Bumps every time I need to adjust the collars. And the s. Bumps are not easy to take off and on.

You only really adjust the collars once. The single Allen bolt on superbumps isnt a big ordeal to remove. If your shocks only have 12k miles why not spend the $100 on a set of 700lbs springs instead? I went something like 60k miles on my Toytecs and they were like new when I donated them to a friends truck.

Superbumps are nice to have, mine are substitutes for having no swaybar

Check out MCM. He has nice products with ADS Shocks for 1st gens. You could also go with Fox or King. Most suppliers will build you shocks with the spring rate you want. Just may take longer to get them.

You are right. But saving my self from an accident ...went over the sidewalk and backed on riadd at 40..... since then I noticed that my drivers side it was leaning about 1/8 of an inch..... adjusted and weeks later the 1/8 drop came back...... and they are all rusted now. Thanks to Pittsburgh for that

Or maybe is the coil. But I’m the original owner and have the thing for 17 years. Ideally I want a serviceable shocks on it. Keep my current ones in a box. And send the new ones down to service at the right intervals, use my old ones while I get them back...then swap again. Just so I don’t have the truck on stands in the garage for weeks.

I also heard that ads fox kings and icons are very similar. Have a relation w. Toy Teck products. And will like to keep it that way.

My vote is for Icon 2.5’s w/ 700# coils but I’m a little biased.

I think fox are great but for me I need weight support. Not just 800lbs heavier but top heavy with a jurist shell. Don’t care much for flex. I just turn the front or rear lock on. And don’t want to look my towing capacity

Not the case for the ones built for first gen trucks. Long travel would be fine, but their shocks for stock lower arms have a tendency to smash brake lines. It's not installation error and not an isolated case either.

They use a 16" spring rather than the common 14", and the lower spring perch hits the brake line right where it meets the caliper. You can swap to a Tacoma brake line with a banjo fitting for safety but that's a shitty design flaw. Most first gen coilovers have a bit of rise off the lower mount to avoid this, Fox doesn't.

Forgot to mention, I didnt buy rear Fox because I saw more than one guy get the first gen piggybacks. They all had interference with the parking brake cable. Its further proof that Fox did some careless design work for first gen Tundras. I know we are such a small market that we should be lucky anything aftermarket is made for us, but people buy Fox expecting the best and get that shit.

Well fox isn't the only brand that has one-off fitment errors. You should see the interference Kings cause on 2nd gen LT, or the 2nd gen rear ADS MT issues :rolleyes::rolleyes: If fox has fitment errors for your truck, then buy a different brand, I can understand that.

I still stand by my statement. Fox uses higher quality materials, the shaft material (stainless steel with the highest rockwell rating), the seals (viton), the resi hose (2000 psi hydraulic hose), the piston design (better flow ports and two flow options) are all much higher quality than the other brands. The valve stacks are super easy to tune and the stack chart is easy to understand. The shock oil is rated up to 450 degrees, highest out there. I have 60k hard miles on my coilovers and I haven't rebuilt them yet

That's all good @osidepunker I just don't want first gen guys to think all coilovers are the same and spend 1800 on Fox to find out the hard way. Hitting brake lines, especially if you're out on a trail, is never smart for that price.
