Hi everyone, new member here. Just curious how many people add on a hood scoop and what does it cost to do it?

You need a new hood and scoop parts. Then you need it painted. Probably around $1200.

Very few do because it’s an expensive oem part ( no aftermarket available) and still needs to be painted.

You don’t need a new hood for the install just the scoop and parts associated with it. A few members here have done it. I personally love the look and will do the mod eventually. You can purchase from @Roman or Sparks Toyota.

@Roman can tell you best pricing, but you can do an internet search and find the price. Sparks Toyota or Cool Springs Toyota.

People love them or hate them. If you want to go anywhere off-road, the hood of the 3rd gen is already a bit challenging to see over; seems the added hood scoop would make it harder. But for a mall crawler, they look cool.

I have the scoop and in the group of not a fan. So much so that I just bought a new hood to get close to the look of my old gen 2 when looking out the windshield. Don’t want the old one just sitting in my garage collecting dust so wanted to know if there would be a demand for it.

Yes, several on here want them and don't want to pay retail. Once you get to 50 "real" posts, you'll be eligible to list it for sale. What colour is your truck? When you list it, say the colour, where you are, and list it for less than retail, and it will sell. You can't do any more about it though, til you teach 5O posts. So you best get to participating!

I’m sure someone will correct me if I’m wrong, but I heard if you make it functional you do more harm than good.

just buy the parts. do all your fitting and drilling first, then have the scoop painted by itself. u can put electrical tape or similar on the holes you poke through the hood while the scoop is painted. or just drop the while truck off and have the shop do it.

    It's all about heat extraction......

"At BMC Extreme Customs, we challenge you to REthink, REdesign, and REinvent your ride. We specialize in custom car and truck hoods. While offering a large selection of aftermarket hoods, we have also been adding original manufacturer hoods such as the new Hellcat hoods. If you are looking for a performance heat extractor hood or ram air hood than welcome to BMC Extreme Customs Hood Center.

What does a Ram Air Hood do for your car? In most instances, an aftermarket fiberglass hood weighs more then today's modern, aluminum built straight hoods. A Ram Air or Heat Extractor Hood can assist your car in a few more ways then an OEM hood can. An aftermarket Ram Air Hood allows extra air to enter the engine compartment, therefore allowing additional cooling for your car. Most are built to channel air on top of the OEM air box for HP gains at speeds, which means greater performance. Lastly, aftermarket ram air hoods make the car look more appealing and aggressive. Whether it's Double Scoops, Single Scoops, Cowl Induction, or OEM Styling, we carry popular brands such as EG Customs, RK Sport, Trufiber, APM, our own BMC Extreme Customs line, and many more. *All aftermarket hoods requires hood pins for safety reasons."

Another first hand quote......"I also took time to measure another temperature, hood vent air temp. I clipped the sensor right to the middle of my right hood vent grill. Initial idle temperature was 136 F. After 2 minutes driving a 30 mph temp was 85. At a stoplight for 30 seconds temp shot up to 103F, rolled another two blocks temp down to 85F. Then another stoplight 45 seconds, temp went to 146.5F. This pattern was consistent, while driving the air coming out of the hood vents was 85 within 1 F up or down. At each light or intentional idle it would rocket up to over 150F. I stopped at a gas station, engine off for 2 minutes and hood vent air temp was 167.8F. That is a lot of heat escaping from the engine bay."

Another truly "cool" way to spruce up your hood and actually help unwanted heat escape....http://hoodlouvers.com/
