Which clips did you buy? I have been having this issue as well. I thought I was the only one because I had my hood bulge Line-X'd.

They’re thicker and hold better. Recommended to me by a guy on tundra group on Facebook that does a lot of hood bulge light bar work

Guys, another inexpensive but effective repair for this might be Plastex.

I have used it on a few projects and it is neat stuff. Not expensive, and avoids tossing otherwise good parts.

A link to their YouTube video:
    https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=oZHP6fE-BNU

At 6:30 in the video they show how you repair broken plastic tabs by rebuilding them using their kit. The stuff worked for me as demonstrated.

After you watch the video, consider that you could create a beefier tab using this product to reinforce it.

    Well son of a bitch.

This has been happening to us for a few months now and I have no idea why. I’ll uave to pull it apart and see which part actually failed and figure out how to put it back with all the info in this thread.

Has there been any OEM failures or is it just those that have changed theirs?

I don't know about everyone else, but ours has been removed and re-installed, so it was probably weakened during that process.

Mine is pulling free from the front, just on top of the black screen. Maybe one of the clips broke. I dont take it on and off, so no clue.

Mine popped up mysteriously in my garage overnight. It is OEM and has never been removed. Pic attached. I was able to push down on it with some force and pop it back into place - now looks normal again. I do a LOT of highway driving at 75-90 MPH, and I have never had this happen before on this truck or my previous 2014 Tundra (75k miles on the 2014, 17k on the 2017). It does pick up a lot of bugs inside that little mesh area. I am simply dumbfounded at how I parked in the garage, walked directly in front of the truck, and came out the next AM to it obviously deformed. I made a separate post about this today.

It's from, I'm assuming if those who slam hood, I mean not hard, and also if you Tundra is outside 365/24/7 like mine cold and heat make those tabs behind HB brittle, and I'll assume that's why it pops up like that, and at high speeds it opens up

Think I need to order new one, the mod I did, the zip ties hold it somewhat down, but at high speeds it pops up, but not as much

I have the very same hood bulge problem. They aren’t the very best made part on the Tundra. The clips wear and break very easily. They are made of cheap, flimsy plastic.

What I have done to hold it in, is gorilla glue the darn thing in place. I figured that because the hood is steel and the hood bulge is plastic, the hood bulge flexes in the wind while driving and the clips will pop out. The pros are that it is easy to replace and much more affordable to replace, than the entire hood. There are many other ways to permanently secure the hood bulge to the hood. All of which can be done under the hood and not affect the aesthetics of the truck.

The center of my buldge pops out every now and again. Not to often to really worry about it yet.

Good post guys, mine took a chunk of tire flying off an 18 wheeler a few years ago, then it came off last week on a road trip. I had to Gorilla tape it in place. Looking for a fix or replacement.

That gorilla tape can be MEAN. I’d get that off the paint ASAP and carefully. Strong stuff.

I know, I bought some Goof Off and will work on it this afternoon, Hopefully I don't destroy the clear coat. Also a HUGE Bravo Zulu :) to and Member berto40, he offered up his old chrome hood budge, We were able to meet up last night and had a great conversation!! This morning I called around and Fred Hass in Spring TX has the newer style push clips in stock. So Hopefully I'll have it all installed by this evening.

Same thing happened on my 2015, swapped the bulge about 5 years ago then it started coming up at highway speeds this summer.

I went by today and picked up the clips, talked to one of the body shop techs and he said the newer clips have better biting surface to it, what ever that means. But he recovered using lacquer thinner to remove the tape residual on the hood, he said sits what they use in the body shop since it will not harm the clear coat.

Berto40 You Rock!!!! Thanks for hooking me up with the Hood Bulge!!!!
It’s installed and and the trucks ready for a bath tomorrow morning!!!!

I bought some GooGone instead of the Lacquer thinner it worked great, wiped a coating on and let set for about 30 seconds and rubbed with a old microfiber towel and the tape residue came off, finishing with some soapy water and a rinse.

Actually I didn’t end up using the bulge I got come with the clips so I didn’t end up using them. I plan on taking them back for a refund.
