What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Ordered a new OEM Carrier Bearing and Nut.
New OEM thermostat and seal and a new spark plug for my lawn mower.

 

Some complaints (from buddy) about his 2018 Tundra (in chronological order)

1) technology
2) antennae too long
3) step bars too much chrome
4) back seat too big (crew cab)
5) unintuitive light stalk
6) Entune difficulties

Ultimately, we figured out a few things on the road like how to turn on the fog lights and use the Tow/Haul button (torque!). Did some 4x4 runs and the truck did well in sand. Entune needs some user fine tuning which I believe is the problem that stems most of these complaints online. Stereo sounds good, but think my stock 02’ (with sound enhancements) sounds better. The 5.7 Liter is a beautifully powerful engine. All in all a great truck thats everything you need at a lower price point for junk Ford etc that will break down. I’d buy a DC (not CC) today if the 02’ suddenly bit the dust.

I like those Methods, both color and style. I also like your existing OEM rims and think you should save your money and keep them.

 

If you want my honest opinion, those are just not my style. They are too busy. All those beads along the edge is just too much to look at. I actually really like the factory wheels you have on the truck. I think if you dipped them black it would look great. When I comes to wheels, the more simple the better. But it's your truck. You make it how you like it!

 

One of the first gen guys I follow on Instagram just had his transmission bite the dust. He's decided to convert to a manual now. If anyone wants to follow the process you can find him as NorthBoundTundra. Should be interesting.

You beat me to it, just like he's beating me to the swap. It'll be nice to be able to see the issues that arise beforehand though, but I hope it goes smooth for him. He's got a nice Tundra. I'm watching that closely.

 

I like them. Just having a hard time pulling the trigger on it.
Kinda want a 30-30 lever action.

But it would really help if I saw them on another best gen tundra

 

Took a fat $1000 slice out of my wallet to cover the maintenance backlog on new-to-me 120K '03...hope that's it for a bit!

- timing belt, water pump, thermostat
- denso iridium plugs
- fuel filter
- exhaust line repair

 

I second this; those rims look good!

 

Not today, but this week. Had an oil change done as well as a fluid and overall check.

Also siped my tires.

 

Got my work bonus. And ordered and finally got my floor mats.
They fit pretty good. They need to heat up and relax a little bit. They are more plastic than rubber.
So far I like them.

Anatomy of some spark plugs post mortem. This is all Pre Valve Cover Gasket and new Coils Replacement back in summer 2018. These ‘Iridiums’ have 40k miles on them. Notice the random oily plugs vs. drier plugs threads. Look at #5 piston hole.

 

For me wheels are about ease of cleaning. Those Method wheels look a bother to keep clean, but perhaps easier than the narrow channels on your current rims.

I always like the Saab 900 Turbo rims - so easy.

not my style of wheels, but i'd go with the black trim.

 

Rifle sounds like the better option. Nothing wrong with those OEM rims.

I have no idea about becoming a cowboy as I don’t live in Tejas. Maybe you can enlighten? He has options. His OEM wheels look good. He wants a rifle? Get a rifle! Or, both! Its his money and he asked.

Drove my truck yesterday from Moorpark to Riverside for a reunion of sorts, got an unsanctioned uncalibrated 18.6 mpg. Drove back home, filled my gas tank, calibrated my SG2 and now the mileage watching game will proceed.

Took the truck out to see local flooding. I've never seen rain like this. I wish I had @Rheywood456 snorkel so I could have attempted the deep spots.
