I haven't actually fully turned my truck on yet to notice a pop. I have only turned the key to have power to the radio.
I definitely connected pos and neg correctly because I used the extra wire from the JL tweeters which have wide and this female spades.

The amp will deliver about 3 times the power that the factory stereo does, and it will push them at 4 ohms. I'm not audio expert but I would say that should perform 3-6 times better with the amp, as far as power goes.

Do you loose the dash center channel?

No. You would wire the new JL tweeters to the left and right front channel.
So the front right output of the amp would run the right door, right dash and right center tweeter, and the left front would run those but on the left. The rear channel outputs would run the rear doors and the 5th channel would run the sub. You could divide it up however you want really. But that's how I would do it.

So the center speaker is no longer it's own, so your loosing it.

As far as I can tell it's not on it's own anyway. I actually had my disconnect for about 6 months and didnt notice a difference in sound. I unplugged it to see if it made a difference last year and when I went to install my new speakers I remembered I did it.

For your sail panel tweeters, https://www.shop.tech12volts.com/product.sc?productId=566&categoryId=124, is the price for a set or single door? I'm assuming it comes with JL / Hertz tweeters

States right and left sails and tweeters not included. You can always order these from your local dealer or online dealer, but you probably won't get a much better price.

Thanks. I've been trying to find used panels without no avail on ebay etc, I will keep these in mind when I am ready to upgrade.

So you did NOT install the capacitors then? That is what was causing my pop so I got rid of them. However now too much bass comes through my 3.5s and sounds unpleasant. I believe James said it will be fine once I install DSR1 And the amp.

Correct I have not gone back and out the capacitors on, the sound is fine but I worry I could blow the speaker if I dont get them installed. What do you think @james@tech12volts should I go back and put the caps in?

He was the one that told me to remove it and it would be fine. The capacitor worked as a crossover from my understanding and not to keep the speaker from blowing. That would have been a resistor. I could be wrong

Will these still make a good difference if I didn’t make it into the sub group buy to pair with? Dragged my feet and kicking myself now

I think they’ll be an improvement from stock, but not huge. You’ll see more noticeable improvement from a new head unit and/or an upgraded amp.

I'd still buy the sub even at 199, it's still made a big difference.

I'm not sold on these speakers, my plan is to pick up some 2 ohm woofers and the plastic adapter kit from taco tunes, because they can make custom sizes.

They will be more crisp and clear but will not add volume level. Need amp.

Well, it's just $20 more than it was on the group buy, still worth the purchase.

As it has been said in the previous posts, the sound quality is drastically better in terms of clarity/delivery/balance, but it is not louder. Its difficult to explain, but just think of it as switching through a bad pair of Dollar Headphones to a higher quality version. It would be just as loud, but substantially clearer. It might even create the illusion that its louder because it just sounds so much better.

I started with the Tech12V 10" sub and was very happy with the difference in my JBL system.
Once I removed the rear seat and saw the crap that Toyota put in and called "premium", it made me wonder how bad the rest was....pissed me off that I took "Premium JBL" statement for granted, but I didn't buy the truck for the stereo in the first place. I never even turned the radio on when I was test driving at the dealership. I ordered the whole deal from James (keeping the Entune HU), some part of GB, some on my own but once I decided that my total Tundra experience (ex F150 owner) would be greatly enhanced with a much better sound system for long road trips and everyday driving, and for the price, and after looking at just about everything else out there, I pulled the trigger and decided I will do the install myself and save big. James has answered every single question...latest was yesterday...Sunday afternoon....answered e-mail in less than 5 minutes. I finished all the speakers this past weekend, working outside. I was blessed to have temps north of 35 degrees. Sure, you've got to put some time into it but the install is less than half of the BS you have to go through with other "famous" Tundra JBL audio alternatives out there. Now that every single speaker has been replaced, I can't wait to do the amp and DSR1 which should by all accounts snap this system to life. Honestly, if I didn't know better and purchased the truck with the new speakers I've installed, I never would have looked further to upgrade the amp.

In the end, I'll have around $1100 into it and 10-12 hours doing this in sessions over a few days. Buy some plastic panel tools, get a good crimper, a few connectors and drink a cup or two of patience. Watch a lot of videos, read everything you can. If the answer isn't on line, James will answer it for you.

Anyone that ya installed the door speakers, are the mids stronger and cleaner? With the stockA they distort like crazy.

I gotta say I was really tempted to pull the trigger on this group buy, considering the AWESOME experience I had with the group buy for the single 10" sub and box from James. That alone "woke up" the JBL "premium" system. I'm a little bit of a basshead, and I wanted some more bass with sub volume control, so I got another 10" JBL sub (same kind) and a 1,000 watt JBL amp I put under the front seat. I built a sub box based on the dimensions of the box James sent to house two 10's in separate chambers. I had a business trip that took me through GA, so I dropped off the sub box James sent to me, which hopefully he can use again to help offset the crappy service UPS provided resulting in multiple damaged subs. So I basically paid $180 for one JBL sub, but I figured with all the money he saved us and the cost he incurred, I'd show him what caliber of people reside in the tundras.com community!

But alas, I'm broker than a broke dick dog with all the mods I've done (anyone know the feeling?), so I instead added bass blockers that work with the JBL factory 2-ohm speakers, and attached them to the (4) midrange door speakers. James was kind enough to guide me through the wiring process, even though I wasn't buying his speakers. They have an 85hz cutoff point at 4-ohms, meaning 170hz cutoff point at 2-ohms. This in itself significantly reduced (practically eliminated) the muddy base coming from the midranges when cranking up the volume, and with my sub amp's crossover point set to about 170hz, I've experienced no frequency loss. The JBL speakers' highs aren't what I would call an audiophile's dream, but they're fine enough when you get rid of unwanted frequencies going to them, and sound a helluva a lot better with a new head unit or aftermarket amp. One day I'll probably buy some tweets and mids from James, but for now, this did the trick in my opinion. Anyone in the Charleston, SC that wants to take a listen, lemme know!
