I bought my 2009 a few weeks ago and am loving it. Figured my head unit would be replaced eventually, as I would like to add a backup camera (possibly forward facing as well). However, this past weekend I got the beginnings of a slow death of my stereo. Everything still worked while it was happening, but, my wife's '07 4Runner suffered a similar death a few years ago. I thought mine being newer and less miles may mean it would last longer. Anyone experience this before? Is there a fix if I were to tear it down? It doesn't happen all the time, but it will become more often over the next year. I definitely don't have the funds to replace it yet, unless someone has a stock stereo they replaced that has the nav/screen they'd offload for cheap.

    Cheers!

Check out craigslist and ebay for replacements.

After market with video can be found maybe under $200ish, add the camera later.

I have a factory head unit out of my 2014 Platinum, it’s the Navi version, haven’t gotten to 50 posts yet to put it for sale here, getting closer though.

Not sure if a 2014 would fit my 2009. Maybe a super smart other member could weigh in? Would love to find one that's plug and play.

You’re probably correct. Good luck hunting!

    working on upgrading the audio..
I know this is fairly old.... but, this is me/us to a "T".. same vehicles, but BOTH stock units are functioning as designed. Both are non-JBL.

I DO plan to replace my '09 DC's HU with an after-market unit. .Done TONS of research and the best "bang for the buck" for 2019 appears to be the Pioneer AVH-1440NEX. Since I (we) have iPhone's I don't really need Android or map capability.. so units with Apple Carplay built-in, hands free Siri, maps, Waze and other such features, stop me from spending more on a 10yr old truck - albeit in great shape. I kept my last truck for 10 yrs, so.. ;)
I MAY upgrade the speakers (when cash flow permits) and potentially add a sub.. but I'm betting a stock speaker upgrade (with an already upgraded HU) will be all I need. Choosing speakers is FAR more complex than the HU. As my 2nd job is a musician and as a soundguy, I'm aware of the impact both parts may have.. but car audio? Ugghhh...

I don't spend HUGE amounts of time on the road, so a ~$500 upgrade (HU/speakers) to the factory audio seems to be reasonable.
I'm not about to put $1500 into upgrading the audio on a 10-yr old truck - much as I love the Tundra!
