Another thought, I had this problem over the summer in my Pete. The turn signal switch went bad and had similar problem.

I would think that but I swapped in a known good turn signal switch and same thing.

I thought it could be the relay but I have a led relay that I bought. When headlights are off, I can hear it click for both turn signals. I haven’t swapped in the oem one but I doubt that it’s the problem.

At this point it seems easier. Frustrating that I can’t pin point the problem. And I don’t wanna take it to a shop cause I’m sure they’ll charge me a lot. Literally running out of ideas I even tried unplugging the hazard button connector (well, the connector right by it) and still same symptoms. When pushing the hazards it makes the cluster and hvac lights blink and brake lights. So something is shorting out but the last thing is to trace every single wire...which is gonna suck.

Is there anything in the passenger fender that goes or is near the wheel well? That could affect it?

Is it possible that the hazard button connector is swapped with the HVAC lights? I haven't looked at those in 10 years, cant recall what they look like.

Sounds like your problem is closer to the source not the light bulbs. Looking at the PDF diagrams the issue is between the flasher relay and the 1h connection under the drivers seat . Possibly two wires making contact . Green/yellow wire would be first guess.

Doesn't sound like a grounding issue.

When the dash lights flash with the blinker do they seem dimmer than normal?

Have you spliced into your dash lights power source for another 12v load? Aftermarket light switch or something??

The 2 connectors are different sizes so they only fit in their designated spots.

I haven’t looked under the driver seat. I did pull off the plastic panels but didn’t see anything with corrosion. I’d have to take a weekend and look under the seat.

From what I can tell, the dash/hvac lights look all the same. They light up normal as when the lights are on.

I did splice in to the rear passenger reverse light for my reverse camera using a t tap. It was the red/blue wire from reverse socket. Could that be an issue? The camera and lights work fine. I haven’t looked when the parking lights are on and in reverse.

And as far as dash splicing, I don’t believe so. The only one that comes to mind is my fog lights since I have them on a different switch. But I used a fuse tap with a 5amp fuse under drive side fuse box.

Does your truck have an alarm?

    Aftermarket trailer harness?

Factory alarm and factory trailer harness. Haven’t towed anything in like 6 months.

So tried some more testing. Unplugged both rear brake light bulbs. Same thing. Changed out rear passenger tail light harness with the old stock one. Same thing. So I’m inclined to replace the turn signal relay (have a modded one for LED) as well as the turn signal switch. I did use one from a Tacoma to test it but I’m not sure what else to try.

Could the switch be somehow stuck on right turn to cause it to malfunction? Or something wrong with the switch?

The relay clicks when you turn left or right. But when parking lights/headlights are on, no turn signal at all. So it’s gotta one of the two right?

it's a bad ground. you need to provide a ground to the ground pin on the tail light connector. verify you have 12 volts from that ground and the positive wire at the connector with the turn signal turned on. if it's not in the rear it could be the front but sounds like rear.

I don’t think it’s the tail light connector. The right indicator still lights up even with no harness connected.

I'm not saying the ground at the connector is the problem. the ground wire from the connector goes to a spot on the frame somewhere where it's grounded. that spot on the frame is the bad ground we're suspecting. I've seen this before and your symptoms match it perfectly. the connector is just being used as a testing point.

So tried looking for the ground. Specifically the one by the gas tank. Couldn’t see it really but the grounds in the bay look fine. Any other grounds that I should look for? Like I said, nothing major happened. Just out the blue, it started all this. Frustrating to say the least.

So I did some wire tracing. I think I may have found the culprit. There’s a green wire that’s along with a white/black and black wire and the green one is corroded. Doesn’t look cut but the green shielding is all like melted off. Could that be an issue? Can I trace it out and ground it at each end or is that a power wire?

Green is the power for the parking light circuit, just cut out the bad area and splice in a new piece of wire.

So I replaced the green wire. Couldn’t tell where it was bad so I just reran the wire from the tail light connector (car side) all the way to right underneath where it goes in the cabin. But now, the brake lights blink with the right side. The hvac and cluster lights don’t blink and I can use my turn signals with headlights so like 90% of it is fixed. To fix the blinking brake lights, should I ground the wire from the car side to another ground? Or do I need to trace that wire too. I only focused on tracing out the corroded wire since it was obvious that it was bad.

You can try using a different ground of it's easier. At least you're making progress.

Hmm. Should I try it from the car side harness or just the tail light connector.

Haven’t gotten a chance to get to it yet. But do I need to ground the driver or the passenger. I’m assuming driver since it doesn’t light up and blinks with passenger turn signal.
