Dragging caliper?

    Scheduled appt this morning and brought Tony to the shop today. Details are in profile, 16,000 miles. Started smelling a burned brake pad smell, best I can describe it, over the weekend after a short trip. Everything else seemed normal, smelled it when I got home too. Decided to call the Toyota house when they opened today. On the way to work this morning (75 miles 1 way) the truck felt low on power......restricted.....like heavily loaded or pulling a heavy trailer. No pulls to either side or anything like that. Called dealership and they said to bring it in, I told them I was 75 miles away, they asked if I could safely drive it in which I said that I could....and did. Has anyone experienced anything like this? I'm betting it's something with the brakes but not a completely locked caliper. They said they would have to order parts when they find out the problem as they don't stock parts for newer models, so for now I guess I'll make the most out of the snazzy Rav 4 I'm sporting around.

    You say caliper but I think you really mean brake pad(s). Which technically means the piston(s) inside the caliper that pushes the pads onto the rotor. And then ever-so-slightly retracts when you let off the brake pedal. Typically it's the lack of proper piston return that causes your suspected issue.

    On such a new truck I'd really be surprised. Please advise what you find out.

    Just received a call from the dealership. They inspected brakes and didn't find anything wrong or out of spec, a mechanic test drove it several times and did an extended test drive and was unable to replicate the problem. They will have another mechanic drive and inspect it tomorrow, he will expand the inspection to cover more than just the brakes.

    Check for brake dust on the wheels. the sticky one will be obvious. :hattip:
