Does anyone know how to change the honk to the standard Toyota beep when locking/unlocking? Or is the honk standard in a 2014 Tundra? It is extremely loud and not a fan of it to begin with. Thanks.

Funny how he grass is always greener. I've seen posters complain about the fact that the beep is too low to hear from across a parking lot.

:notsure: Do you have an aftermarket alarm? My 15 is a really quiet beep.

I haven't installed anything. If the previous owner did I'm unaware. I dont see any aftermarket parts installed. Plus, I leave for work at 5am and the horn is so loud in the neighborhood. I'd just rather have the beep. But is it too quiet?

I like that it’s quiet. But I’ve never heard a Tundra honk so I’m assuming it’s an aftermarket alarm or something. I could be wrong. Do you have an alarm?

If not, maybe you need techstream to change it?

Mine honks and the typical Toyota beep when I arm my truck. It was an optional factory alarm that I paid for. Basically they just turn it on with a code reader. Rip off LOL.

After I installed my viper alarm I had a honk and a beep. I silenced the alarm and now have the Toyota beep, love it.

I personally don't care if it's a beep or a honk as long as I can hear it as I walk away from my truck.
Unfortunately I can't hear my anemic tweet!
Anyway to make the beep louder?

The tail lights blink which is good enough for me. I always look back at my truck when I lock it with the remote.

There are 3 settings for unlock beep. It can be changed with the Techstream software.

Same for the key in the ignition chime. That one comes from the factory on its loudest setting. It's the 1st thing I change.

When I remote lock my '02 it notifies me two ways. There is the audible clunk of the locks locking & the visual wink of the parking lights. Anything louder than the clunk of the locks would annoy me & my neighbors at 2200 - 2300 when I get home.

I just wish if I held down unlock that it would do it quietly.

Here’s your answer OP. Change it via tech stream. If you go to your dealership and tell them you’re waking your neighbors, they just might change it for you. And tell them to turn off the seat belt chime while you’re at it.

Ok so are you saying that there are 3 beep sound level settings? Is the factory default the quiet one?
I don't care to get involved with Techstream personally. Will my Toyota shop do this for me?
    Thanks.

Maybe. Most dealers get around $100 just to hook up the TS computer to the truck.

If you have some scheduled maintenance., They will most likely take care of this to keep you a happy customer.

Ask them to get rid of the seat belt alarm too if that one bothers you.

Some will say it's against the law to disable the seat belt alarm. It's not. You can't disable the seat belt light.

Sorry, didn't notice the 1st question.

I don't believe they come from the factory set to the quietest chirp. I remember turning mine down to the quietest. I didn't like how loud it was when I got the truck.

On mine, I am able to adjust the piezo chirp volume via a setting in the head unit. I have the OE JBL headunit.

Yep, on the higher end models this is true. Us lowly SR5 models gotta get bent over by the dealer or learn the TS program.

I read on another thread (?) recently, that you may choose in settings on the built-in infotainment system. I haven't checked but you might look OP. Like you can update the display image and whatnot.

Ahh, my bad. I played around with Techstream on a virtual windows xp install I had on my laptop. It was handy to diagnose a dying tire pressure sensor on my tacoma and turn off the seat belt chime.

Daniel752, I have a 2018 Tundra Limited 4X4 and I was able to turn off the honk/beep on locking with the menu that is on the small screen between my tack and speedo. I don't know if you have this or not. I did not need Techstream.

Don't your lights flash as well when you lock/unlock your truck? Just look back at it longingly when you press the button and look for the flash.

Just press the lock button on the fob, once.
The lights will flash and let you know it locked. If you press the lock button several times it will honk to let you know it's already locked. There's no reason for this. And there's no real reason to wait until you're 100' feet away from your vehicle to press the remote and lock your doors, so not sure why anyone would need to hear the honk. Just lock the doors when you're at the vehicle.
Unless you have a system that honks from pressing the remote lock button once. If so, yes, see if it can be reprogrammed (I'm sure it can) because it's annoying and unnecessary. But it's usually that you're just pressing the lock button too many times.

I have a 2019 SR5 and mine would honk once when locked by remote or when I used the lock button inside the truck with the door open and would honk twice when unlocked with the remote. Since I installed an aftermarket sound system I have been able to disable the honking when unlocking with remote but not when locking. Locking still honks once when locked. I would like to disable the honking. It is enough that the head lights flash I don't need the honking. Getting rid of the seatbelt chime would be nice too. To do that with my Ford Explorer you had to go through a series of commands like, Turn the ignition key to the on position no start and off again three time in 5 seconds then turn the AC on and off 2 times while patting yourself on the head like a good doggy. I thought it was dumb but it worked. I wonder if there are any unpublished secret settings you can change with the Tundra using something similar.
