    Good morning all,
Hoping to purchase my first Tundra soon. Currently looking at 2 trucks: 2013 Toyota Certified, 1 owner Crew Max w/ 78k mi vs 2014 (not certified, 2 owner) Crew Max w/ 96k. Both are the same price ($29.9k), similar options (5.7, SR5, towing). Color is not a factor.

I'm wondering what your thoughts are on the benefits of the newer model vs having 1-2 yrs under the Certified warranty.

The warranty is a nice piece of insurance. I'm biased bc I have one, but I prefer the 14+ style, but I still love the 07-13's.
I think it comes down to preference, the 13 has almost 20k less miles, does one appear to be taken care of better? Does one appeared to have towed, while not the other?

Which one do you like better?

I would go with the 13' myself. The certified truck has the 100K warranty, and then you can do another 100K mile warranty if you want to take your factory warranty to 200K miles (for ~2700.00). Not sure if you can do that with the non-certified truck.

The 14' is newer and different exterior/interior.

Why not go for a brand new 2016? I got mine (SR5 CM 5.7L 2WD) for $32k before tax two weeks ago. It's a little more but no worries. 2016 clearance right now.

Just a guess, but with a site name like mountainsideCO, he is going to need a 4x4 CM. 36136.00 is the cheapest I could find.

Like you, I would spring for the brand new truck as well. $6k isn't as big of a deal when looking at financing options or over the long term.

I'd also bite the bullet and get a new 2016. If you search around enough you will find dealer clearances of up to $6k off trying to make room for the 2017's. I was in a similar situation last year thinking of spending 26-27k for a used truck and ended up getting mine for around 29k new. The extra $2000 was well worth the warranty, less mileage, and peace of mind knowing that nobody that you don't know has driven the truck.

You'll see a big difference of interior and front of the body on the 3rd generation (14+) versus the 2nd gen. Same engine though.

Wow, that's a lot of miles on the 14! I'm about 35k on mine...wonder if they won't certify it because it's close to 100k?

Multiple owners as well Sean. Certified is supposed to be one owner, lower mileage vehicles.

Thanks for the advice. I hope to test drive a few trucks including these two on Thursday. I hadn't considered a '16, normally they are way out of my price range.

I started looking for a certified Tundra, then realized that they hold their value so well that i was better off spending a bit more than I wanted to go with a new one. That's what happened, my first new vehicle. Then at 2,400 or so of the most pampered miles possible the transmission went. Yup, that's my luck. Still love it though!!!

Between the two, I would go with 13 for the reasons others have stated. In addition, at least for me, the sliding and reclining rear seat in 13 is a a great feature. I was upset that they took that away with 14s.

Personally, I like the look of the 2013s better than the 2014s... Same drivetrain so it's really just a personal preference for what you like better... I think the Rock Warriors are the best looking Tundras Toyota has made...

Wish the RW were still in production. Maybe @bandit will give me a screaming deal on his slightly built one.

I'll bite. I've never given my opinion on 232nd vs 393rd gen looks. I really never cared for 3rd gen body changes. Totally dislike the grille and rear bumper. Apples and Oranges.

    While I like the Gen 2's, I prefer the Gen 3's ...

As for the OP's 2 choices ... I'd go with the certified Gen 2. Lower miles and under warranty. But test drive them both and make sure no issues.

    Good luck!
