2016 Limited. I had read about this a while back and did it to my Tacoma and last Tundra. I couldn't find any wiring diagrams online so I had to test the wires.

On my Tundra mirror harness the blue wire is +12v with ignition. White is +12v constant. White with black stripe is ground. I cut the white wire and insulated the end. Connected the mirror side of the white wire to the blue one.

Done deal, buttons on mirror only work when ignition is on. Didn't want some asshat to smash in a window and then open my garage!

Nice fix. I was surprised when I noticed that on my truck.

Thanks for the inspiration! On my 2019 it was the Red wire that's +12v with ignition but all the same otherwise. Took about 30 minutes and that was being extra careful not to cut or burn anything with the soldering gun. Looks like factory work, and the mirror retains the code. I read somewhere that the mirror will remember codes for up to 4 months. Thanks for giving m the confidence to mess with a new truck!

I like it. I’ve had the same concern, just haven’t done anything about it yet. It’s good to know that the mirror does not need battery power to maintain the programmed memory.

Glad it worked out! I felt it to be a "must do" mod as my truck has to spend the night outside. Don't want to wake up to my tools gone and my deepfreezer cleaned out!

Not sure how to test that... but in the event I forgot to lock my truck the homelink would still work, without the rewire.

Now that's a Hell of a good idea! Does anyone think that Toyota engineers would have such a good idea?

Noob here. I noticed that my homelink garage door opener works when the car is locked and nothing in the ignition...as I read the comments I’m wondering where do I do these modifications, Behind the radio or is the harness connections under the hood? Thanks for the information in advance! I drive a 2014 tundra crewmax 4x2.

You might be able find it under the dash whilst lying in some horrific contorted position and chance splicing together your A/C and ABS.... Or you could just do it in a sitting position in the headliner with only one wire harness available to work on.

I do suggest putting a meter on the wires to confirm colors. Small safety pin goes into connector and then it's easy to take readings.

I emailed Bob, and he had me send a pic of my mirror cable connector to determine which wires and how many pins and advised me of his adapter to buy. I ordered it, it came with instructions for removing the headliner console, and adding the extension cable which switches power to ignition only. 15 min assembly process, now no power to homelink when the ignition is off. Bob's a great guy to work with and knows his stuff. Plug & Play. You can swap/splice if you want but I prefer a plug & play solution.

I need to do this since I park outside..
Can't decide if I want to reorder the pins in the connector or buy the adapter.
Adapter would be easier to reverse the change.
Also there isn't much room to work to rearrange pins.
But to save $30, I only need to pull one pin, shrink wrap it, and repin the other.

Here are the schematics of a 2015 wires to the mirror.
    @dumbassdave is correct.
Sky blue wire is ignition powered.
White wire is to the battery.
Of course white w/ black stripe is ground.
W1 is the black connector to the wiring that goes into the mirror.

Did you buy the adapter in the link above, or did he recommend a different one?
The pins in the linked adapter don't match up with the schematic..

The one you posted is 14 pin. My 19 Pro is 12.

If you have a multimeter, it's pretty straight forward to figure out what you need to know to do mod.

Dammit, I had to go out there and check mine upon reading this.
My 2014 is 14 pin, the wiring diagram I used is 2015.
Both the bat (pin 8) and ign (pin 1) leads are on the left end of the plug when it is plugged in, the right side when looking into it.
Also my plug doesn't plug into the mirror like in the adapter pic and what looks like your pic.
It plugs into a connector with wire leads into the mirror with a cover that conceals the wires.

I just used small safety pins and stuck them into the connector so I could put the meter on them.

If you see my pic I have plenty of room to just cut and shrink wrap the BAT wire, then connect the the ACC wire to it.
    Maybe this coming weekend..

You have a compass in your mirror?
    It works the same right?

They must have changed something in the 2020's.
Mine will not open the garage door unless the key is on.

    I finally did this today.
I don't usually use connectors like this, but I was too lazy to strip and solder.
I also wanted it to be easily reversible..
Being that I park in the driveway I felt this was a necessity.

You don't have your trim level in your signature so not sure if it's a trim level difference, but my 2020 Limited homelink was on with the ignition off until I switched power source to ignition on with a cable.

I just bought one of Bob's wiring harnesses. When I install it into the existing harness, homelink still works with ignition off. Does Bob's harness plug in to the existing harness or do you bypass the existing harness completely?

I plugged mine into my OEM harness, then to the mirror. He might have pinned it wrong. Send him an email with a pic of the pins. You might be able to fix it yourself.
