Hello everyone! Finally was able to get the truck home this weekend! Runs and drives great. However, breaklights do not work and ABS light is on as well as VSC light. Got the seat out upon returning and was able to see more clearly what was effected by fire. Was hoping for some advice on best ways to replace effected wiring. Have the factory wiring diagram and service manuals. Just digging into this. All help and input is very appreciated!IMG_20190127_181311.jpg IMG_20190127_181327.jpg IMG_20190127_181538.jpg IMG_20190127_181412.jpg

    Don't cut anything out yet.

As always ***Disconnect the battery before you start monkeying around with the wiring***

First thing is to get a handle on whatever it was that caused the fire. Since you have the wiring diagram take some time and study what it says. Cross reference to what ever has been hacked into and mark/label everything to include all the shit that was added by the PO. Don't cut any of it out just yet.

If you don't have any, get yourself some bulk auto wiring spools of varying colors (same color is fine too) BUT the biggest detail is to make sure you use the appropriate gauge wire. Too much gauge is better than too small (which is what I suspect caused the fire). Amazon has them or any WalMart, etc.

Connectors are various...for example, the crimp-style "butt" are plentiful and cheap but you need to look for quality "butt" crimp connectors that have the shrink material built in. Or there are other styles and other folks here will have good info on what other connectors to consider. Here is an example: https://www.amazon.com/Connectors-E...2-spons&keywords=auto+wiring+connectors&psc=1

You may also need harness plugs and the metal connector tabs that go inside. These are available as well.

Regardless of how you splice in the new wires, you have to be sure they are sealed so they don't short and cause another fire.

Get a few rolls of electrical tape and wire loom, zip ties etc. If you don't have a good set of automotive electrical pliers, get a pair of those too.

Now its time to get to fixing this mess.

Use the old wires as your template. Also, be sure to tag/label the new wires as you go since you won't be able to match all the various colors.

The biggest thing is take your time and ask for help...lots of good knowledge on this forum.

    Good Luck!

Holy cow! Thanks Crunch for the epic reply! After disassembly and inspection it seems like a good idea to just replace that harness assembly. What are your thoughts on that? Have isolated on wire diagram and FSM the part number for the correct harness.

@Roman send him a PM, he can give you all the info you need and a shipping discount. I think I would go with a new harness....Plug N Play. If you run wires you are still going to need connectors and I don't think you can buy those.

A new harness is probably the best way to go. Yet, my only thought here is that you are dealing with a salvage titled truck. Means there is a discounted value on the truck going forward - forever. With the interior and the wiring needing attention, you have to be careful that you don't wind up with a bunch of money and time sunk into this vehicle. It could quickly not make sense to own.

Have you looked into local junk yards? You could probably source everything (interior and wiring) quite a bit cheaper.

    Just a thought...

Yup, all the salvage harnesses have been cut up and while the risk vs reward of a cheaper part is appealing, I will likely drive this until the wheels fall off and will feel better about the harness being complete. Gotta a great deal on the truck even being salvaged worth investing some $ into it. Thanks again, Crunch!
