    2016 Black Tundra SR5 TSS
    Hi everyone,

New to the forum! I drive a 2016 Black SR5 TSS. I'm interested in changing my chrome bumper ends and grille to black "chrome", not matte, or do whatever it is that makes it the same color as the vehicle. I'm not sure about this process. I've read on the forum where people have used plastidip or gotten vinyl wrap. Is vinyl wrap the way to go? Or are there parts that can be purchased that can change out the bumper caps to a black "chrome" finish. I've also considered purchasing the TRD grille. Would like to hear everyone's thoughts!

    Thank you!

Not sure about vinyl but plastidip won't match the shininess of your truck. They have plastidip glossifier but that stuff won't get that shiny. I would look into having them painted. For the grille, the TRD Pro grille is probably the easiest way to match. Ask @Roman for the grille.

I've got a slighty used TRD Pro grill in black for sale. See my thread in the buy/sell/trade section.

My bumper end cap are wrapped in vinyl. They match the body color also. They do have a black that isn't matte. If u wanna know for sure u would have to go to the shop and try and match it. I don't mind the wrap. No problems yet.

Wrap is definitely a cheap, durable option, but it's not going to be the black chrome color you're wanting. The only way to get that would be to have the current ends sand blasted, and dipped in black chrome. You may be hard pressed finding a shop to do this, and it will cost a pretty penny. I think it would look awesome, though.

I am a certified vehicle wrap installer. The vinyl wrap will look nice but it would be harder to install. Please keep in my that a wrap does not last for very long. It can fade over time and peel off. It all depends on how you take care of it. Like not leaving it in the sun and always keeping your truck clean. I also recommend doing a laminate on the vinyl for longer lasting.

Cost: +-$50 if installed yourself, $150 - $250 if professionally installed.

The plastidip is a better option. Easy to install, if you mask everything off and know how to spray. It won't give you the glossy affect you are looking for but the glossifier helps a bit. But come on, it's just a bumper, it doesn't need to completely match. Plastidip also does not last very long. Depends on how you care for it.

    Cost: +-$50

Painting your bumper at the shop. I think this is the best option. It is permanent, your colors will match and you don't have to do a thing but fork up the cash.

    Cost: $200 - $350

Keep in mind that the first two options will eventually have to be redone when it starts peeling or fading. Which will cost you more money.

    My bumpers are white plastidip.

    Hope this was helpful.

I plastidipped mine for now, but would like to powdercoat them in the future to color match.

    Thanks so much everyone!

I've called a few places and gotten some very high quotes for painting the bumpers, and this is just the end caps! At around $800-$1,300. Is this accurate?! The end caps are apparently expensive and have to be painted and installed. Am I talking to the wrong people?? Haha

My current end caps are chrome and I was told they couldn't be painted without ordering new end caps. Is this true?

Yeah, those are insane pricing. You must live on an island where they import everything. Lol

Remove the endcaps and plan on replacing them yourself, now you just have a couple of parts that need painted. You shouldn't pay over $300 to have those parts painted..

I also talked to some paint guys about getting my grille painted - all of them said it wasn't worth painting over chrome. It's ultra smooth and you can't really prep it right. Paint won't last.

Somewhere on these forums someone mentioned the "bleach trick" for removing chrome, but that involved soaking the parts in bleach for a number of days.

I painted the grille white on my 2012 and it didn't last very long, color faded and it started peeling... I don't like chrome so on my 1794 I changed the grill to a trd pro white grill and had the whole bumper vinyl wrapped and I love the look. The 3m vinyl is the exact same color as the truck.image.jpg

Do you remember the exact brand/color they used to wrap your bumper ends? I have a white tundra and yours looks great!
