You can find someone who’s had a failed engine on any platform.
    Toyota, less than others.

I think those supercharged engine failures came from driving habits of the owners. I have 110k on my supercharged 5.7 and though it's very tempting to open it up at times (for which I am guilty), if you drive it with common sense it should last a very long time with proper maintenance.

Yes...same thoughts...and mods beyond just a S/C is where the engine failures creep in...I'm at 65K and no issues.

I've been pretty hard on my truck. I'm more concerned about the tranny than the engine failing. Just maintain it and you'll be fine. I'm at 181k on my 2016, it still runs fine.

The Toyota Tundra is the only truck I would buy at 100k miles and not hesitate. I bought my 07 TSS Crewmax at 99K in June of 18'...it has 102K now...I need to drive it more lol.

In fact I am going to 100% Toyota in the future. I had a 2011 Taurus Limited with 87K miles on it when the water pump decided to dump the entire contents of the radiator into the crank case. Will never touch a Ford again, and that is sad considering I have a 1966 Mustang in my garage.

The problem is Toyotas hold onto their value way too much!!!

This was what I found in my research, and why I didn’t take the extended warranty. Catastrophic failure will most likely happen in the first 30k Miles or in the 150k+ mile range. Anything short of catastrophic I can fix/replace/upgrade myself. Wife and I both run Toyotas with no major problems to report in almost 10 years of being a 100% Toyota household.

My driveway is 100% Toyota right now. 03 Sequoia, 08XB, 15 tundra. My sister-in-law had the audacity to park a Lincoln aviator in my driveway. I was hoping it wouldn’t mark it’s spot like her Jeep has done. I freaked out one day because I thought one of our cars was leaking. Found out it was sisters jeep.

It’s actually a cool little jeep. It’s an 80 something renegade. But that thing is scary trying to keep it in a straight line driving down the road.

Yeah the short wheelbase will do that, especially if you are running tall pizza cutters for wheels. I had a 82 CJ7 in college and Loved it. Recently got rid of the biggest POS 2005 LJ Chrysler product I'll never own again. Plans are to one day find an 81-85 CJ8 Scrambler in decent condition with V8 and auto tranny but those are unicorns.

Big fat 35s I think. I’ve been thinking of trying to find a solution for her. Pretty sure she’s had all new ball joints and bushings installed as well as tierod ends etc. It just feels really loose and floaty but I don’t think it’s the steering box either. I was hoping there was some type of relocation kit to remedy this. Although she says it doesn’t bother her I think it’s dangerous as hell

Well it sounds like the money is spent in all the right places and the 35s are fine as long as she is not doing highway speeds because it wont take much to roll that thing like a ball. Make sure the sway bar on the front is tight and with 35s it will definitely need upgraded steering components. Also make sure the steering box has an aftermarket brace installed. This can go a long way to making it hwy worthy.

Thanks I’ll check that out. And I want to look into the aftermarket brace for the box. It definitely feels like anything over 60 is rollover city. Luckily she realizes it’s mainly a city truck at this point. She does not off road, it’s mostly because she just loves the look of it. Takes it to work and uses it for cruising.

New to this Forum. Hope everyone has had a better experience than I have with my Tundra.
At 64,000 miles my 2014 Toyota Tundra caught fire as I was driving to work. After 2 months of Toyota claims investigation they told me that 2 rocker arms became dislodged from cylinder 7, got wedged between the cam and valve cover cracking the valve cover. This caused oil to spray all over the manifold and catch fire. After investigation was complete Toyota tells me that they are unable to honor my claim. The Toyota dealership is telling me that with the damage incurred they would need to replace the engine. $10,000 + to repair

Fire was minimal and did not cause any damage. The damage is all due to engine failure. My insurance is looking into it but I doubt they will pay out on a mechanical fault like this. I'll keep you posted.

Hope you are able to get it resolved @930ruf

As far as engine's, I know this was asked about the 5.7L, but my 4.7L is still going strong at 146k. I know the 4.7 and 4.6 aren't as glamourous as the 5.7, but seems like Toyota has put out some awesome engines. The million mile tundra was the 4.7L in a 2007. A couple of years before that, my local dealer had an 06 first gen with the 4.7L on their lot for sale.....over 600k miles!!! Looking at it, you would have thought it rolled off the showroom floor.

Other than the cam tower leak, I haven't heard of any recurrent issues that would be a problem. Mine has been great.

The only issues I have seen were Supercharged tundras that guys were really pushing to the limit with a smaller drive pulley to raise the boost up and get over 550 hp. But never any real failures with a stock engine or a stock Supercharger set up. I have 42K on mine with an SC on it the whole time. No problems.

My house is also 100% Toyota since daughter wrecked her Escape last year. My son has a Camry. Not his first choice. He had a nice 4 Runner but needed to save some money. I thought about getting daughter a Roque. I think we made the right decision with the Rav4 we bought. Bought it used at a Honda dealer and sales guy said we made the right choice with the Rav4 over the Rogue.

    Hi

I know this is an old post but wanted to find out if there has been any more issues

I have a 2012 Tundra Crewmax, just rolled over 150km. Bought it when it was a year old from a toyota dealer.
The valve spring went and now I'm putting a new engine in my truck at a cost of at least $10G. I have done regular maintenance and its not an abused truck that is stock

Just want to see if anyone else has had the same issue? Did Toyota step up and do anything?

Overall, 5.7 engine failures aren't common. Mine is supercharged since 6700 miles...its been fine...yet, I don't abuse it. The guys who abuse the s/c engines are predominantly the ones who experience the failures.

If there were common failures, you would have had a bunch of folks piling on to share their similar story (in your original post).

It is also why the Tundra resale is so strong.
