I was picking up my Baby after the dealership was done doing some body work and one of their guys swiped my truck into the car next to it as he was going to pull it around.

I saw it happen to, felt like I was watching somebody slap my own child. I nearly cursed out loud in the body shop lobby.

So another week in a rental, at least this time they were able to give me a Ferd F150.

Idiot. You should make them fix the damage, obviously, but also get additional out of them for diminished value :)

    That sucks.

When I was in college I worked part time as a Valet... One day one of my co-workers decided to put out a few small signs early without telling us, we normally put them out after closing.

Long story short while delivering a Jeep to a waiting customer I hit one of the signs (3 feet high, setup sideways so while I was backing only the 1" thickness was visible. It was small and on springs but made a small dent and scratched the rear lift gate. (They made it right, and then some)

I felt horrible, I would have rather smacked up my own vehicle instead of someone else's. The owner was pissed, as I would have been if I were in his shoes.

    Shit happens, we are human.

I feel both of your pain!

On the plus side it doesn't look too bad!

Thanks, they are fixing it on their dime, wasn't in my possession yet. They said they'd deliver it to me but fat chance I'm going to trust them to drive it anywhere.

Diminished value? You think I can really get them to cough that up?

I would have seen a manager and asked how much they would give me for trade-in. When he gave me a number I would turn, look at my truck, and say, "try again". Just sayin

Dammit! That would be my luck too. They should take it out of the employees paycheck in my opinion! Learn him a lesson.
My truck is double cab long bed so i am sure they would wreck it. I am not sure i will ever go to the dealer even for the free oil changes. I have a friend who has an oil change shop and he lets me go under the truck to watch. I have to pay but at least i dont have to drive an hour each way to the dealer.
There is a Toyota dealer here in town but anyone smart knows not to go there.

It's like a personal fear that I'd end up doing this to mine.

I'd tell them you want your pick of X $ of TRD accessories in the parts dept.

Ouch!! You'd think they would be smart enough (working at a freaking dealership) to realize when driving a truck, the turn radius isn't as small as it is on a car. You have an extra 3 ish feet of sheet metal to maneuver (lengthwise that is)

Wow that must have been hard to watch. I feel for you. I woulda went bazerko if that were me. Looks like he was just pulling out of the space next to the Infinity? I mean who does that? Other than 90 year old ladies and 15 year olds with learner's permits. That's not even carelessness... that's just someone who doesn't know how to drive. He has no business driving customers' cars. I like Matt's TRD accessories idea. Or maybe have them install a TRD dual exhaust for $500. They've gotta compensate you somehow. And also make sure you get lifetime warranty on the repair they do.

    Infiniti!

Thats terrible! Listen to everyone and definitely make them pay you for diminished value. I would probably have a heart attack if I seen them wreck my baby.

For sure he's fired! If when you pick up your truck and you see hes still working there, time to find a new dealer!

yep. Just for the Infiniti, if the fender wasn't affected which, looks like it was a little plus the headlight. Looking at between 1-2.5 thousand ponies. Plus the tundy, that's another thousand, if not more. Sucks to be him!
I'd be fired in a New York second if I screwed up something like that at my parts manager job a few years ago. We worked with bentleys, range rovers, Mercedes, etc.

Thanks all. I have a feeling it was swept under the rug so I brought it up in writing to the dealership main office. I got a call about 5 minutes after that and haven't heard back yet. I made it clear that this isn't the first but the 4th bad experience I've had at this location.

If they give me the cold shoulder I'll elevate it to Toyota corporate. I don't think they'll like hearing about this happening at one of their dealerships.

I doubt if the employee will be fired. They'll just turn it over to their insurance company. If they fire this guy, the next one could be worse. Plus, keeping him ensures he'll be careful from now on, and it cuts down on paperwork. A similar thing happened to me years ago. I went in looking for a new car. My wife was 7 months pregnant and we decided the old wagon was due for an upgrade. The salesman was going to drive it around to the shop for an appraisal, and slammed the bumper into a concrete support backing it out of the parking space. After the usual run around on pricing, I asked about the repair and started to leave. My wife was feeling ill and we wanted to go. The salesman still had the keys and wouldn't give them back. A loud scene on the sales floor resolved that. By this time some manager came out to see what was going on. His reaction to the situation? He started chewing me out for being "unprofessional". I told him off quickly and left, never to return. Don't think for a second that you're more than dollar signs. Put them on the defensive and you might win. If you let them get the upper hand, you'll lose every time.

I get you, but the next employee could/should be better. I'd prefer an employee that doesn't frack up a customers vehicle, let alone in front of the customer after just getting body work done after waiting for some time to get his truck back. It's one thing dropping a dozen eggs. $3. No brainer for me. Obviously a bad image for Toyota. After all we are talking about that dealer here on the internet. Hmmm.. let me think again.......fired.

What a rookie move! Heck, that's what that mirror on the passenger side is for. I feel your pain. I feel for the Infinity owner too. If I were him, the Infinity owner, I doubt I'd wanna work around the guy that trashed my car...

Update: Aug 30 2016. I did receive a call (as I mentioned) from the dealership yesterday and the guy sounded like he did want to make me happy but haven't heard anything from him or the service manager since.

So this morning I wrote an email to Toyota explaining the situation and my frustration.

I'll also give ya'll the backstory, i don't want you to think I'm unreasonable, it takes more than one isolated incident to get me upset. I understand mistakes happen but now I've had too many issues here for this to be random/coincidence. This is actually the 5th issue I've had at this dealership and each time I've assumed it was a fluke and I gave them another chance.

#1) I bought my current Tundra here. I traded in my Tacoma and they were very quick to take my Tacoma and my cash for the trade in. However the Tundra was back in their body shop getting a door repainted. I was told this was a 1-2 day job. Despite multiple calls from me after several days it ended up taking them OVER A WEEK to get my Tundra out the door to me.

#2) Roughly 10k miles after I bought the truck I started having the infamous Secondary AIP issues. I was not happy that I was having issues with a truck recently purchased from them. I took their advice and called Toyota, who offered no help since it was a 2011. I came back and they told me they wouldn't be helping me out either. I had also found out that one of the seat belts didn't work right in the back seat. I was astounded that they would let a vehicle leave their lot with some of the safety related equipment not in working order. I had to buy the part myself, AND IT WAS ONLY $20!

#3) I stopped in to this dealership for a look at the 2016 models on the lot. They talked me into getting an appraisal for my current vehicle (didn't want to sell it but I though, why not). They ended up losing my keys and I was stuck there for 2 hours until they found them CHECKED IN as if it was a 'for sale' vehicle.

#4) Brought my truck here to the body shop (service center) after an incident where multiple bales of hay fell off a truck and struck mine. This ended up being a total catastrophe on their end, only half the damage was repaired and they told me that the insurance company denied the rest of the damages. Later to find out from that insurance company that the dealership had never contacted them in the first place.

#5) Brought the truck back to the shop to fix the rest of the body damage after sorting it out with the insurance company. Valet smashes truck into a parked car (see top of page).

If I don't hear anything from them by the end of the day I will post the dealership's name, location, website and all other contact information.

Edit: No word today from them. See below.
