    Hi Everyone,

I’ve been reading and trying to learn as much about suspension as I can. I’m looking to upgrade my 2018 CM Sport.

I stopped in to 4WP and the fine gentleman behind the counter was jocking these pretty hard over Bilstein and Fox for the money.

I haven’t heard anything about them. What can you all tell me as far as value and quality go?

Fox are great shocks, as well as Kings.

Bilsteins are good shocks, but only qualm I have with them is they don’t go up to 3”.

4wp is a good place to check out things if you know your stuff, but I would check out @Toytec Lifts great people, won’t steer you wrong and clincher? They deal exclusively in Toyota’s.

I haven't heard of these, they look like progressive motorcycle shocks lol. Not sure your budget but you can look into toytec or go up to kings or icons. I myself don't trust any of the sales dicks at 4WP. I made the mistake long time ago when I had my ford truck lifted by them. I didn't know jack crap and didn't research like I do now on the forums. Tons of info here and many knowledgeable people here.

He may have some stock to unload? Or there is a good commission spread. Im pretty sure the counter guys get a cut.
Either way, if it was my cash I’d stick to something proven. I also made the mistake of using 4WP. They did OK but thanks to this forum any future work will go through Toytec.

Sounds like my suspicions are confirmed. He didn’t seem very knowledgeable. I’ll stick in the King, Icon or Bilstein arena. Gotta find something soon to match up with my group bought TC UCA’s!

get yourself the king 2.5's. I just had mine finally put on last week, and they look killer with my TC UCA's. Also, the ride is improved, champagne fell from the heavens and trumpets blasted glorious sounds of victory and triumph.

I really hope those leafs are some kind of AAL because I wouldn’t trust any company that thinks 2 leafs on a leaf pack is going to hold up the weight of a Tundra.

Thanks for all the love here guys!

I have heard of this company before and I have also heard it’s fair share of issues.

Honestly for that price range we can get youcsetup pretty nicely.

Shoot me a pm anytime and I’ll be more than happy to help you out.

What's all this talk about 4wp sucking. You just need to find someone that understands suspension and more importantly you needs and aspirations for your truck. I work for 4wp and travel to other 4wp stores and yes there can be some knowledge gaps.

Now if you want MY honest opinion without me putting my work shirt on, I'd stay with tried and true coil overs like fox, king, icon, ads, bilstein, and ome. Pure performance is pure junk. You're better off running Fabtech coil overs if you want something to compare against Pure Performance. You need to have a game plan as to what you want the truck to do vs what a sales guy says. You could walk up to me and say you want Kings and I could flip your thoughts to a OME BP51 kit within 5min walking in the door. @Kh328 @Erichudgins @tbrown @lunchbox come to my store all the time and get the best advice from me plus other aspiring Yota owners. But what do I know....

Keep it up and I’ll pass a collection plate! In all seriousness, I was skeptical about going to 4wp, big chain fears. Found @Hattori my first trip in here in Nashville and won’t look back. Honest advice, understands needs and budgets, has talked me out of spending money with him before (didn’t matter, found another way to spend it) price matched anything, and let’s wheel with him on weekends. To each his own, find someone who is reputable and knowledgeable. I’ve taken the truck back because I forgot to ask for something small to be done during a project, or had a slight rub and they take care of me on the spot, don’t try to charge me for something simple, or nickel and dime for a real project. Good people, good shop.

Sounds like if you’re ever in Oregon there’s a new 4WP that could use your help! I shoulda known when the salesperson said he was a “big Nissan guy”!

I do believe people make the business and in this case my local 4WP needs better people.

That's funny, I was asked to go to Ogden at one point lol. Always go to someone that has your needs 1st and foremost. No matter what the sign says on the building. Unfortunately I can't be everywhere lol

    @tbrown

Right now it’s a mostly stock 2018 CM Sport. Max modular rack is on the way and I’m close to pulling the trigger on a RTT and I have some TC UCA’s when the group buy ends.

I drive 100+ miles highway a day for my job but like to spend the weekends fishing throughout the Pacific Northwest or up the mountain skiing. Mostly trails but sometime rutted out, steep or otherwise uninviting conditions.

I want something that is going to ride comfortably on the highways but be able to handle some weekend warrioresque punishment. I’m certainly of the buy once cry once philosophy but looking for something reasonable. Say all in to lift and level accomplishing the above for around 2-3k.

Then I have to worry about wheels and tires. I see some guys are able to run 35’s without BMC and that would be awesome but not sure it’s always possible or if 35’s are overkill (not that there’s anything wrong with that).

Pretty much told the dude at 4WP the same thing and that I was interested in Bilstein 6112’s for the front and 5160’s for the rear. He started saying I really needed to check out Pure Performance and that they’re way better than Bilstein or Fox.

That’s where I’m at. I’m incredibly grateful for the community here and thank you all for your input.

I don't think a relatively unheard of company is such a bad thing. Some parts of their design is cool, looks like some heat sink stuff is on the shock bodies. That said I don't know why it mentions triple rate springs and only shows a single linear coil in the pic. Those shakes look pretty weak too.

Might not be bad but I wouldn't gamble on something like that.

Truth bro. Unfortunately in alot of settings especially something that's been around as long as 4wp.. you get alot of old school Joe's that know jeeps and chevys... but the times are a changin!! Tommy nor any of the staff at our local 4wp bas ever steered me wrong.. from researching price points to what would work best with what.. and he'd do that for anyone, not just his tundra crew. So that being said, they are not all one in the same. #hookmeuptommy

I’m looking real hard at that max modular rack now! Im same as you, mostly highway and day care pick up line, but I like to get sideways on the weekend or go road for hunting. I’m running 6112/5160 currently, have been for about 3500 miles. Great ride on road, handles off road very well too. Considering getting rid of them and moving up to kings. Why? I don’t have a great answer here, I just want to lol!

I’m running nitto ridge grappler 295 70r/18 with camburu uca and we had to cut the slightest bit from the body behind the drivers side wheel. You can’t even tell the did. Trimmed the bumper some too and did an rci skid and I can’t make it rub right now. I was looking at the more expensive stuff and after talking about what I used truck for Hattori pushed me towards 6112’s. Since I put all the work into the build my habits have changed a little ;)

Personally, I’ve had some crap advice from some very reputable places, and I’m not just talking about vehicles.

For instance, some big sporting stores get kickbacks from selling a certain brand of gun or ammo. One of my best friends used to work for Sportsman’s Warehouse, and he told me what went on there.

It is nice to get good advice, but do your own research as well, even if you’re a newb. Asking the right questions usually gets the best results.

If I can get it cheaper at 4WP (which is local) and install it myself...done.

The quality of 4wp all comes down to the employee. I’ll trust the 4wp store by my house but I only trust one guy there because I know he’s been around this for a while! Always safe to use Toytec lifts. I got my suspension through them!
