Well, as some of you may know, I got rid of my 2018 cement crewmax last week due to a botched cam tower job at 9,000 miles. We got my wife into a new 2019 Limited Highlander, and I just picked up a 2010 DC Tundra today! It was a long Tundraless week, but I'm happy to be back in a truck. I got it locally (about 10 min from my house) from the original owner--this guy had a service record for every single thing he's ever done to it, and the truck is pretty much spotless. The throttle feels a bit more "jumpy" than my 2018, which I kind of like--it feels like it has more power even though it's the same drivetrain. I'll be picking up new wheels for it tomorrow. Anyway, we went from black and cement vehicles to double whites! I hear white is the fastest color, but I'll report back on that later :D.

A little of this and a little of that.
Welcome back! Sorry to hear about your Cam Tower botch up job. I hope they get mine right when I take it in on Monday.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. It seems like the repairs usually go fine and are mostly leak-free afterwards—I just was unlucky, I guess...

You know, maybe if I got Super White on my 2018 like I was originally planning (before I saw cement in person and was hooked) I wouldn't have had my cam tower leak in the first place...

Kind of a long story, but you can read about it here if you're interested:

    https://www.tundras.com/threads/acceleration-does-this-sound-normal.37378/

The dealer basically gave me a really good trade offer and got us into a new Highlander for invoice minus rebates. I was going to get another new Tundra, but I don't put a ton of miles on my trucks so I figured we'd be better served getting a new "family" vehicle and then looking for an older Tundra.

KOOL! You will get used to the throttle soon enough. I'm a bit biased. I'm glad I have an early 2nd gen Tunny. Less nannies. Crappy ass stereo. Not impressed with the new ones after 17. :crapstorm:

Thanks. Right during the truck situation I also found a lump near my spine. I was freaking out about that, but it fortunately turned out to be benign. That health scare coupled with the stress of the truck seriously must have given me a stress/cortisol overload, because my body has just felt "off" for the last couple weeks. I'm finally coming down from it, and I just need to realize the truck is just a material possession and not to let it get to me so much.

But yeah, I was pretty polite with the dealer, but didn't accept their attampted BS answers. I think the way I handled it benefited me in the long run, but I really felt like flipping out on them.

Wow. you’re speaking wisdom for sure. your health is your wealth. stress is a true killer so i’m glad you’re setting a good example in all of this. really puts things in perspective. RIP to your Tunny but they’ll be another one with your name on it.

I'm confused as to what a cam tower is and how it was botched...?

Oh, so it didn't run right after that? Did Toyota have to buy it back and pay off your loan?

It didn't get as far as a lemon law buyback. I paid just a little more in depreciation in my trade deal than I would have for a lemon buyback, but I just wanted to be done with it and not drag out the lemon process.

So it would have needed a new engine? And wow...

Toyota and Lemon are two words you do not often hear in the same sentence!

Yeah I think mine was definitely a freak case. They had my truck for 15 days including the cam tower repair and the attempts to repair the second issue. They had already opened up my engine three different times and the next step was to have a Toyota regional master mechanic come look at it. I told them even if they finally fixed it I didn't want the truck back since it had been opened up so many times.

My 4-banger Tacoma is almost 10 years old, has over 92,000 miles, and has never been "opened up"...

At least not the engine! Just dropped almost $1,600 having the evaporator core replaced to get rid of an A/C leak.

Thanks! It has 104k on it, but it seriously drives like it's new. The original owner took excellent care of it and was really anal about maintenance and record keeping.
