Wondering if it’s possible that my ‘05 limited has a rear defroster and no heated mirrors? I bought the truck a year ago and I’m still waiting for the ice to melt...

I have heated mirrors (Cold Kit) but how do you turn them on? Or do they turn on by themselves?

There's a button on the lower right hand side of the dash..same one that defrosts the back glass.

You can input the VIN on Toyota's website and find the original spec sheet of what features the truck came with. If it says you have it then you can try to troubleshoot from there. Under the my vehicle tab click on vehicle specs. This is good to do either way as it will show you any maintenance that was ever performed on the truck at a Toyota dealership. It sounds like you're not the original owner?

Let us know what you find as I'm curious.

Ok, so I checked the build sheet on the website- it appears that heated mirrors on the Limited (for ‘05, at least) were an option, which I don’t have. Which is why the ice won’t melt, I guess. Not sure if it’s just a matter of replacing the glass and making a connection, or if it’s more involved. Anyone run into this before?
Strikes me odd that they wouldn’t be standard, especially when my ‘03 SR5 had them.

Same, so strange that a loaded truck wouldn't have them.

Also possible that the element in your current mirrors is broken. I can tell you there's a good chance that if your truck did not have heated mirrors you'll likely have to add a wire.

My 04 was a rebuild and the passenger side heat works but the drivers door is missing the heat wire in the door harness. It's present under the dash so I'm assuming the entire door was replaced from a truck with no heat.

I’ve read that heated mirrors are installed if you have the rear defrost; but cannot verify.
There is no markings on the mirrors which doesn’t help either...

The connector at the mirror is different depending on if you have heated mirrors.

I installed Muth Turn Signal Side Mirrors to update my truck ($199). Great addition. Major automotive glass producer, so very high quality. They come with heated mirrors.

    https://shop.muthco.com/tundra-signal-mirror-2000-2006

If your truck does not already have heated mirrors, you have to buy their "H-MOD" Kit (Heated Mirrors on Demand), which is $69. (Mine had heated mirrors I didn't need this.)

    https://shop.muthco.com/heated-mirrors-on-demand

A great mod for safety and cold weather functionality.

If you have heated mirrors, there will be a small symbol on the mirror that indicates that it's heated.

Not the case on the 1st gen trucks, even my aftermarket heated mirror doesn't have the symbol.

Your build sheet at the Toyota Owners site should show this...

    Screenshot_20191228-150939.jpg

CK - All Weather Guard Package:
Heavy Duty Battery, Starter, Heater, and Heated Outside Mirrors

As mentioned above, it's the same switch as rear defrost. If your option sheet did not show the CK package, you likely don't have heated mirrors.

Well, I kinda like those mirrors. If only the were electro chromatic.. I’d love to have Dimming exterior mirrors

That would be awesome! I used to have a piece of tint I would throw on my {drivers side} window when being blinded though I’ve seemed to have lost it.

^^ EDIT: I have the CK option ("All Weather package")package, and while my Monroney sticker shows that I do have the HD battery + starter + heater, it doesn't list the heated mirrors as part of the package. I assumed I didn't have the heated mirrors (haven't needed the function since I have a garage). But indeed, I do have the switch for heated mirrors to the left of my steering wheel, so I have the heated mirrors. So bonus for me...:bananadance:

Which makes sense because you don't have rear defrost in the AC.

if an aftermarket would make it, theyre easy to add. most of the Gentex mirrors all you need to do is run 4 wires from the mirror to the two mirrors (two wires each)

Maybe it's a aftermarket thing -- I've been shopping for heated mirrors and have seen that symbol in the online pics.

None of my Toyota vehicles past or present have had the symbol, and they've all had heated mirrors.

My 05 limited doesnt, no switch. Not sure what components are there if any to add them though.

The specs on Toyota.com show that mine has factory heated mirrors. It'll be interesting to see if it's a difference in suppliers, or if there are a lot of dealer installed heated mirrors out there.

That’s where I was going with my line of questioning. On my ‘02 4Runner, mirror heaters came on with the rear defroster — there was no heated mirror switch.

If he doesn't have the CK All Weather Package, he may not have it even though he has rear defrost. If I remember correctly, he bought his truck from down south, so maybe it was ordered without the AWP originally... ?
