Welcome to the forum. Buy a brand new truck; There should not have a reason being in Japan for that long without saving your COLA and maybe some of your paycheck for a hefty down payment or full cash purchase.

I'm thinking of retiring in Jonesborough in a few years. You anywhere near there? My in-laws and friends live there and it seems to me a perfect place to start a new career; with a new Tundra of course

Nice! Kadena is by far so much better but both have their pros and cons.

Yes, definitely. We love it here, the country-side, the peace, and skiing/boarding!

For me, 45-50K is better served investing it. I think I've settled on CPO but we are at least 1.5yrs out to decide which way to go.

Welcome OP and thanks for your service! You appear to have been loyal so far so convincing may not be required.. Just how much :spending: you are willing to shell out. IMO either way you can't go wrong. GLWYP

Welcome from the high desert in Southern California. Misawa is great. I like that place more than Okinawa. Been to both places. I used to work out at Ripsaw Range over on the beach there out of Misawa. First thing I thought about when I saw your group handle was; I'll bet you miss being able to go out to the gun range to drop a few down range.

Anyway, when I PCS'ed back to the states from Guam back in 2007, I ordered my new 4Runner on line. I had the benefit of seeing lots of them on the streets (and boonies) on Guam, so I knew what I was getting. I would feel the same about a Tundra if I was doing this again. Get a new one. Used ones cost nearly the same as new. And, at least you get the new car smell....

    Thanks for your service.

Always loved Toyotas...my late paternal grandfather was a lifelong Toyota fan and it's because of him that I've developed such a love for Toyotas. He was a smart man!

Hahaaha, this made me laugh. I'll probably be the same way!

Thanks for your service as well brother. I gotta say Misawa is great but it doesn't have the beaches like Okinawa! I'm in aircraft maintenance so it's been a fun road. Lots of cool TDYs especially out of PACAF.
Your argument is sound; the new car smell is definitely enticing but not sure if it's alluring enough to drop that kind of cash. Though it would also be nice to know the service/mx from day one. More to think about for sure!
