Random post about me wanting to convert my DC to a 5.5’ short box. I would love to find a cheap short box and chop my frame. I’ve built trucks and chassis’ before so not worried about the frame mods or mechanical end of it. Looking at my current 6.5’ box it may be challenging to chop the box. Anyone take their short box off for a deck or something and need to clean up their yard? Haha long stretch I know. How about replacement box sides? Anyone know where I could order them?

You could get replacement box sides from @Roman I think.

I just got a new side box panel as part of the getting rear ended thing. I actually went online and was able to find side panels. I basically was just curious about pricing. The 6.5' was around $500 for each panel. List pricing is around $800 a piece.

I know being a bit up North changes things when shipping...

You should find a crewmax owner that wants a 6.5’ box. Double or nothing. :)

Otherwise, search the wrecking yards. Hollander.com works to search some.

That would be ideal. That’s my hope for sure. Hell I’ll even help do the swap on their truck if someone was willing to trade haha

Ya. Thing is if I’m paying for box sides it just makes sense to go fibreglass. Then I’d have to do the front too. And I just can’t afford all that :(

This might be harder than you think. Will the gas tank still fit? I've never looked but the tank could be the same between the DC and CM. If you chop the middle of your frame the tank might be too long. Toyota sells the bed sides. You could remove your sides and the front of the bed, cut the floor, and then put the new sides on. Chances are you could sell your old sides sooner or later. Seams like a lot of work to make the truck not much shorter. It would give your truck a look that would set it apart from others.

Another option would be to just call junk yards. When you find one (you may have to drive a ways to get it) ask them if they will take your box in trade (or partial trade). Just drive there and swap the beds.

@bohunter shortened his bed. He's got one BA truck. I think your best option would be fiberglass LT bed sides.

You know if you're going this much effort you might as well get ready (glass sides) for the long travel that I foresee in your future. LOL

If you posted this sooner, you could've had mine for free ..but I'm in San Diego and my bed was beat up heavily from offroaing. I've since junked my bed because I'm building a flatbed..
