I have had a rough start on my 2016 ffv tundra. I recently looked at posts and saw a tsb for 2012-2015 tundras with this same issue. When in cold weather 30 degrees or less, I can try and start my truck, but for 3 turns of the key nothing happens. The fourth try seems to get it rolling, but then I have a blue cloud of smoke in the garage and it smells like gas right out of the pump. Dealer said I was running E85, but I have never put that in the truck. 3 tanks of gas same issue with all of them. They replaced the battery as they said it was weak. Any ideas?

Mine was caused by the ethanol reading on the truck being wrong and showing high ethanol. Dealer had to reflash my ecu

It's a shame they haven't updated all years with good ffv algorithms. My 13 had this problem for a year before they finally got the right programming. Just keep calling Toyota. Hopefully they will fix it. It's one reason I won't trade my truck for a newer one.

2019 FFV's should have this TSB already applied, yes?

My truck wouldn’t even fire today. It was almost 40 outside. Had the truck parked at work all day. It cranked and stayed sealed in. I had to turn key off to stop it.
Turned over again but floored the gas pedal and it fired up but reluctantly. it only happens in the winter.
As much as I hate going to the dealer I guess I’ll go.

My FFV barely started today after work. I had buddies that drive a Nissan, Dodge and F150 and they were all looking at me.
It’s throwing code P1604 and two other codes but the 1604 had my attention.
It’s going in Friday. I hope it will start until then.

Does anyone know what the actual TSB is? My dealer acted like they never heard of it.

I honestly do not know what it was for but there was a FFV tsb that came out. Have you checked with toyota if the tsb would help?

I told the guy my issue and told him there was a TSB and he seemed to have no idea what I was talking about. I pulled the codes off my truck and I do have P1604 which is a start ability problem. I’ll see what they say Friday.

Something is definitely not working properly. It’s been 5 and even colder here all week. The cold doesn’t have any affect on how my truck starts. Curious to see what the dealer says.

I have a 2012 Double cab 5.7 ffv and having same issue. Just like SLSWOOSH9 I can try and start my truck, but for 3 turns of the key nothing happens. The fourth try seems to get it rolling but then I have a blue cloud of smoke and it smells like gas right out of the pump. I have taken it to Toyota and they are saying I have the latest program on my truck and could not reprogram it. BTBAKER I am curious to see what they say. Please let us know.

Nope, I don’t think it’s an option for Canadian models. Didn’t even know Toyota made Tundras with it until this thread.

Ok here it is. Basically just remapped the alcohol density and said it was good. Time will tell.

Do you have a flex fuel engine? Check your fuel cap or VIN.

Then you most likely need the TSB that I just had. Are you under warranty? The TSB takes about 30 minutes.
