What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Yeah these will definitely be put to the test. I’ll be keeping a mileage log once I put them on (pavement / dirt). Gotta get my money worth!

 

Ordered the paint supplies to fix the passenger side doink! Probably bought more than needed, but may use the extra on redoing the dinged up tailgate.

 

Not sure what the difference is but they do indeed make CV specific grease. I know the one time I replaced a boot on a vehicle the instructions specifically said non CV grease could cause accelerated wear.

Napa should have some in stock.

I could have taken more time and prepped a little better had I been home alone. But the paint itself desipte being the right paint code, is a warmer white than my truck. Maybe it'll cure and look right. Otherwise I may sand it all down and try again but with super white. Fuck it lol.


Next step is remove that ugly fender thing on the rear and the dealers decal on the tail gate.

 

So I went to go change my brake rotors today because I noticed some shimmy when braking at 70+mph and upon pulling apart the driver’s side and installing some new brake pads I noticed a stuck caliper piston.

Well...that’s bad and can’t be driven on (or at least, shouldn’t be).

So, another trip to the parts store later and I had 2 13WL 5.3 inch calipers and a set of pads. While the brake shield required a bit of Dremel work, the swap was overall pretty quick and easy. Bled em, and took em on the road to test.

So far, I notice slightly longer foot travel (maybe need to be bled again?) but stopping is just as strong or stronger. Here’s to hoping I won’t bake my new rotors in 20k miles

Drove 8 hours(round trip) to buy a used camper shell today. The seller had me take some crazy route through the mountains. Ended up encountering snow and ice. It was a wild trip.

The shell needs some TLC but I'm happy with it.

I did indeed. including 4Low which is extremely rare.

 

Just small stuff. Tired of stuff rattling in the upper center console so I lined it with some foam I had in the garage. Also red sharpie on the unlocked door indicators, and programmed my key fob.

Oh, second kid should show up in about 3 weeks. Glad I got the double cab.

Went out in the 49 degree night and pulled my front tires off the lift the lower arms and tighten the lower arm bolts down. SPC recommends flipping the rear ones so that the steering rack doesnt need to be pulled off, but I couldn't see a way to get the socket and torque wrench on that way so I flipped it to the stock arrangement. Looks like the new bushings are smashed but they pivot fine. I dont think these aftermarket bushings will last long.

Tomorrow if I can I'll bolt the steering rack back up and maybe get the tie rods on. The snow is calling me.

 

What's wrong with your truck? I don't see any rust in the background of the rotor picture.
Good work on the brakes. Are you using rubber hoses or braided?
Bull bar looks good with all that other chrome going on.

 

Looks good overall. You don't use the passenger side much anyway & passengers won't notice.
That fender thing is a (anti) chip strip. Mine looks crap too. Was wondering if it's dirt in divots or mold growing under it. Think I'll try steaming mine clean in case it's surface dirt, if not keep steaming until them come off. Assuming they have replacements available.

Replaced the PCV valve today. I almost shit my pants when a big piece of the old grommet fell down in the hole. I had to fish it out with some plyers and barely got it.

Did one last power steering plunge. Brake fluid is next.

Replaced the head light bulbs. I have no idea if they are adjusted or not. One actually burned out yesterday on my road trip.

It rained here all day so I didn't get a chance to do anything with the new camper. This thing is going to be a major project.

 

Good job! The bulbs seat themselves. Your beam adjustments are made on the headlight housing. You’ll need to pull your sidemarker housings off to access the adjustment screws on that side.

Plenty of headlight beam videos out there to walk you through the process.

 

Wish I still had my coin holder. It broke off so I put it in the deep well underneath. Think it got thrown away when I stopped using cash years ago.

I think I have a spare laying around. I believe it was from my old 4R but it's identical to my Tundra one.

 

Mine didn't have a coin holder when I got it used. My 03 taco did though.

 

That higher speed passing power is impressive.
