Travel Trailer Mods

I recently stepped up from my Pop up camper to a Travel trailer. The wife and I are in the process of transferring over our gear and setting it up getting ready for this years camping season. So for those of you with campers, anything neat you have done to improve the camper itself for function or storage? Curious to see what others have come up with. I have a fairly big front pass through storage I'm trying to get ideas on how to organize instead of everything just thrown in there.

Also any ideas on things you feel are a must to have would be appreciated as well. Most things will align with my previous camper, but now I have systems like water, a/c, Tanks, heat etc. Stuff I didn't have before and there might be things you guys always keep with your or do from past experiences.

 

I added a slide out tray to hold my stinky slinky. It’s a plastic gutter (cheap house style gutter) from the hardware store. It slides perfectly into the square pvc housing and makes it much easier and cleaner to use. I took some pics for you, but it’s frozen so I didn’t try to slide it out.

 

I also installed mounting brackets in the front storage pass through to hold brooms, pipe for wdh hitch, tools, fishing poles etc.

Get 2 hoses, a potable water one and a cheapo for flushing the tanks. I got a cheap expanding hose for flushing the tanks. Not what I would use to water my yard, but perfect for this as it doesn't take up much room.

Add a bolt on hitch and get one of these. Keys tend to get lost and having spares can save a trip:

Also, remember to drain your water lines and especially the water heater before storing.

 

Just noticed that your new trailer has a hand crank jack. Before you worry about buying anything else, get one of these, you will thank me everytime you hook up.

I don’t have pics, but I added an 80 watt solar panel and a sun saver so I don’t have to start the genset when camping without service.

I have an axle flip kit to lift it in the spring.
In addition to this a second door step and the fold out hand rail.

Also the under awning multicolor led light strip with remote is one of my go to mods. They are dimmable, which is very nice for late night conversations.

Not part of the trailer, but a decent set of mud flaps is top priority for me as we’re down gravel steady.

Wife did some interior space saving things.
Garbage bags in a plastic baby wipe dispenser.
Paper towel holder that’s screwed to the wall under the cabinet.
Oh and we pack a 5 gallon water jug (like the water cooler ones) with a manual pump in it for drinking water.

I always have a toolbox with awning tape, exterior caulking/gun, replacement fuses, matches and emergency stuff. A ladder, rope and tarps. Couple air horns, bear spray.

 

Added a second battery, It changed our life ! lol

 

I like that little camper! Definitely makes it easier to get around, huh?

 

Yea brother super easy ! We just use it for sleeping and eating, the rest of the time were on the move. I once pulled into a 7 Eleven in downtown LA ! Don't try that with anything else ! lol

A good surge protector if you ever hook up to shore power.

 

I'm pretty new to owning a camper. Actually @ColoradoTJ helped walk me through chosing a camper size and a weight distribution hitch. But I can tell you one thing, having 2 propane tanks seems to be pretty important. Running out of heat in the middle of a cold night isn't fun. I was just using one tank at a time until I froze one night. Now I open them both up and make sure I'm drawing from both.

 

Any recommendations?

 

This! I've got a 30amp surge guard. I've heard horror stories about shore power being hooked up incorrectly.

100 amp shunt resistor. know exactly how much power you’re using at any time, more specifically, know the AMP draw of whatever you have “on”. waaaay mo’ better than a simple voltage meter to understand battery status. mounted right inside door so I always know when a load is on battery and it’s amp draw.

Also, if your trailer doesn't already have one get a battery cutoff switch. You can set to draw from either battery, both, or shut off for storage.

I have the same trailer. Love it.
In addition to the surge protector, consider getting a water pressure regulator and some sort of filters between water hookups and the trailer.
Lots of youtube videos for "newbie" owners; watch them all. There are some consistencies and some odd-ball suggestions.
Always check tires.
Always check connections.
Always check level

 

That’s what I thought, but it doesn’t get pulled...so I wasn’t sure if it was an acceptable trailer.

 

I cannot for the life of me remember which two terminals on the plug on the camper you can jumper with a fuse and keep all your running lights on on your camper while it's parked someone might be able to elaborate more on this but the cheapest thing you could ever do

Ok. I don’t have “before” photos, but just picture your traditional 1995 ugly flowered/southwestern print everywhere with carpeted floors and a tiny full size bed. Honey Oak cabinets, brass hardware and fixtures, etc.

Some changes had been made when I got it, but I needed to make it more “me”.
