lol Im here because I own my truck. It lives a drama free life, that has a huge value, that's all i ask of it. but when compared to what's on the market today, yes, it sucks. :) but its still MY truck!

we are getting off topic. The discussion is about if the OP should buy a tundra now or later.

I don't have blinders on because it happens to be parked in my garage. I accept it for its good and its bad.

For me, drama free is a huge part of the reason to buy a tundra.

@B737 does have a valid point, the Tundra technologically speaking is far behind the competition. The Tundra's owners rebuttal is yes but its reliable, also a valid point and the reason most of us purchase them. If Toyota wants to up there truck game they are going to need to put more into it, which I don't think many can argue with.

And here's a picture right here I do not want to happen to me someday before we start talking about fuel economy with the new F-150 s because of its aluminum construction cab and bed man look at that thing the frame isn't even there

I just have one more quick thing to say right before I'm done with this issue I am a second gen Tundra owner technology was not even anything yet in 08 pretty much when it comes down to it when I sit in my wife's 2018 Toyota Camry I sit there and think to myself holy crap Batman what do I do now but it's not the technology aspects that I love about my truck I love that I only have to change the oil brakes and do whatever the heck I want to my truck when I want to because I have the money to do so because I'm not pouring a bunch of maintenance cost into it that's just me though like I say mine is in 08 with 80,000 miles it's not a daily driver but when I hit the gas pedal I know there's eight cylinders firing also none of those four to eight and all that jargon that can go wrong

Agreed, I enjoy the same things as I like a basic truck. But we could benefit from improvements to increase payload, towing and address current platform issues without adding a bunch of tech.

What I see in this picture is a safety cage that took the driver away from the collision forces. I'll take diffused deceleration on this meat-bag any day.

Okay so as my four-year-old is strapped into the back in his carseat I would rather him fly through the air and land on the ground in the cab .what the hell are we talkin about right now I see what you're saying but I really don't understand this situation no situation in the accident is any good but I'm not sure if this situation is better for the cab to fly off of the frame then it is to stay on the vehicle

What in particular are you waiting for an update?
The reality is full model changes (updates) for EVERY OEM will have unexpected quality issues that don't arise until mass production.
Some issues are caught in-house and others aren't identified until after they are in the market.
If reliability is your main reasoning for upgrading to a Tundra, then just buy the current Tundra.
As the auto industry keeps adding more and more electronics, they are also adding more things to go wrong.

Not to go completely off topic but..
A Camaro did that to the F150
    https://wreg.com/2018/09/28/high-speed-police-pursuit-ends-in-crash/
I don't think I like the idea of the cab detaching and potentially causing yet another crash with another vehicle.

Get the low tech Tundra, not sure what tech I'm missing out on, more bluetooth integration to turn seat heater on maybe?

Absolutely depends on the particular accident if it's good or bad.
w/ tractor trailer that rolls over = good. w/ gas tanker that catches fire = good. Away from the crash is good.
slides off into water = bad. slides off to be hit by opposing traffic 18 wheeler = bad. Away from crash is bad.

My point is about deceleration forces. When a heavy vehicle hits a solid object deceleration forces are great & the human body is not deigned to go 65mph to 0mph in an instant. If the safety cage/cab keeps going you decelerate from 65 to 0 over a longer period. Less scrambling of your internal organs the longer the deceleration period. This situation in the photo might be the difference between torn aorta or not torn. Might. Something for potential buyer to consider & decide either way. People didn't like crumple zones in the beginning as they often meant cars couldn't be repaired, but if a crumple zone means less injury to passenger in an accident - thank you & good riddance to the car. I see breakaway cab as the next step in safety. It MUST be a tremendous crash to cause that.

Fords tech is awful. looks cheesy and adds almost no convenience vs Toyota's oft dissed entune.

What Ford does better is looks, comfort and options. My understanding is their rear axles are centered under the bed even. A fantasy for Tundra owners. Nevertheless drama free is king as is not worrying about wavy tin can panels.

and longevity. I've found Toyotii easy to keep going. I couldn't afford to keep my F250 going after 100K, replaced it with Tacoma & Tundra & life is better.

Tundra is going to be better for offroading right out the gate which was important to me but probably not MOST full size truck owners. It's simple with less gadgets to break. It has a proven drivetrain that performs well. After having a new 3rd gen Tacoma I'll never take a responsive throttle and smooth shifting transmission for granted again. I think there is a tradeoff in some of the tech on newer powertrains to net better fuel economy vs. Older tech but less crap to go wrong. Same theory applies for the interior bells and whistles too. The tundra towing capacity and payload is a little on the weak side but if I were towing more than 7 or 8k lbs regularly I'd be in a 3/4 or 1 ton truck anyhow. The MSRP is too high but toyota dealers are mitigating that by dealing on prices. I dont think you can go wrong on a tundra as long as you're going into it with the right expectations for usage and fuel economy and getting a good price on it.

Yup. Maxing out the towing capacity is not what I would want to do anyways. I prefer to keep it at at least 2 to 3000 pounds below Max. Much more comfortable towing experience. I’m all about small and light, trailers that I look at are between four and 6000 pounds.

Kind of, it's from the company who built the new Supra. It will have Toyota badges when it hits production.
