chip or no chip

I have a 2012 tundra and just put 275/70's on it and man she looks good, but now is a lot more thirsty. So I have been doing some research on chips or programmers and CIA's and seem to get mixed information. On the chips say its worth it, some say its a scam, some say it wont churt the truck, and some say it will.

So I was wondering who has chipped with out mechanical issues and who has chipped and have had mechanical issues.
Which is the best chip I have looked at the bully dog GT programmer, the unchip and the Innovative Performance chip. The unchip and Innovative chip both claim to boost MPG up by 5 and HP up as much as 35 and wont leave a foot print. other words you can unplug it and nothing is changed in computer.
Most of the people that I have talked in person say they have used the Innovative in their track cars.

 

I've got a 15' with the 5.7 and have the unichip. Does it make a huge difference without a s/c? Not that's noticeable. Gas wise I've got 37" tires and am getting around 12.5 mpg. I was getting about the same before I installed it. Not sure if this helps, but I would definitely look elsewhere if you don't have a s/c.

Yeah. I have the k&n 63 series. It was my first "performance" upgrade. Again, noticeably lost low end torque. Not a recommended mod. Sounds good, but it doesn't really add hp/tq till high in the 4500 rpm range. I don't have headers yet, but do have a bamuffler cat back. It was definitely my best purchase.

 

Harris1881- hope you don't mind me asking but how much was the Cat back, what brand? The link you posted just goes to another post about some knobbs.

For me the Hypertech interceptor paired with the k and n is good, without the chip I agree on k and n, but now with chip I've lost the high end bog and have my lower end torque and higher end torque

 

The only reason I went with the unichip was I kept seeing people posting about it turning on the check engine light. Have you had any problems with it? Keith at dirtydeeds told me to wait for the bullydog, but they told me would be a long wait before they're finished with it.

 

I installed 3 days ago or so and no problems yet. I have heard same and was told to just clear it. I don't know if it is the older years or what but I'm waiting for it. I also contacted bullydog and was told same, so went with this as these are the 2 recommended per reviews I've read on here.

You won't be disappointed. Im seein my mpg go up as well, started out at 11.3 mpg and now up to 11.5, and yes same driving habits. I know not a big difference but still it's only been a few days and I don't drive much

 

Don't even bother with the pedal thing

 

Any little bit helps. Is that actual mpgs or what the truck computer is telling you? I haven't figured actual mpg, but the computer usually reads around 12.4 in mine.

 

What dashboard is tellin me.
