I really want to run a tall skinny on my truck. For a few reasons.

    1. They weigh less than their fat brothers.
    2. They will fit better with less chance of rubbing
    3. They are quieter on the road
    4. I think they look badass haha
    5. Less friction and weight=better mileage
    6. Less volume so I assume less chance of tires balling up at high speeds?

So far the tire I’m looking at is Nitto Ridge Grappler in a 37x11.5x18.

Not many choices in a tall skinny...

Interesting, pizza cutters. :D I'd like to see what they look like. I'm getting ready (when these 35s are done) to go with 37s. I wonder what the deflated footprint is like compared to a deflated 35x12.5? That's the only downside I can think of, giving up a little traction.

I think it was @TheBeast who posted it awhile back, but there was an article posted on tire widths versus terrain. Take home message was that sandy conditions is the main one where wider tires are a benefit, in heavier soil skinnier tires are a better choice. I’ll see if I can find it to confirm.

That’s a bummer cause I enjoy the dunes nearby. Although it’s not like they’re huge

But your truck will still look schweet on skinny 37’s dude! If that size works for you, that’ll make me really look at that idea. With my wheels (18x9 +12 offset), I’m confident I could do that size in a 37.

Yess yess, I know I’m going pizza cutters but not many narrow sizes in a 17” wheel, only tall kinda skinny tires are 285/85/17 or 315/70/17. I’ve seen a 35/11.5/17 but only MT tires, sucks 20” wheels have better tire size options.

Yes agreed. I’m annoyed 20” is the most common size now. Makes it harder for real men to continue life. The wheels I want only come in 18” or 20”. So I’m stuck with an 18”

That one extra inch won't do that much for floatation or useful traction in deep sand/snow. If it was something more like this it would make a noticeable difference:

    iceland-tacoma-lead.jpg

I'd go with the 11.5" tire.

I like this guy, it’s simple physics, he’s been doing it for a while and I agree with him. Skinny’s have more of an advantage

Yep can’t deny the math there. I like it. 11.5s it is. Although now I want 17s again so the rim I want won’t work :(

I really wanted tall and skinny also however the most narrow quality 37 I could find for 17’s was 12.50 Toyo Open Country MT. My only advice would be try regular road force balance first. I’m about 15k into mine and I’ve been running balance beads, hasn’t been such a good experience. I don’t think I’ll ever go back from 37 tall though. Perfect for Tundras imo.
