On that note, I bought way too much fluid for the PS. I assume this Valvoline full synthetic ATF would work fine in the transmission? I'm thinking about doing a drain and fill since I have this fluid I won't use otherwise.

Not sure bud. I only use the DEXIII non synthetic. I’m not one for mixing different fluids, especially not knowing whats in your transmission.

This is the stuff I’m using in both the Power Steering and Transmission.

Back to back light upgrades. Nice! Removing those metal plates on the map lights makes a huge difference.

Follow the directions on the product. The Herculiner can be bought online and you can read the reviews there. Biggest feedback I read was to use a high quality roller and not the one provided in the kit.

You may want to neutralize that one heavy rusted spot with some Ospho.

Yep, I always do that. Was just curious what the prep would be like.

Sanded and primed some new mounts for my reservoirs. I know it's far too cold to paint but I have little choice.

Looked over the mess my truck has become. Looked at the power steering fluid and radiator overflow, both seem a bit low. Looked at my brake fluid and was surprised to see it's gone from Bud Light to Michelob Amber Bock. Not sure how considering that fluid has less than 1k miles on it and I did a back to back flush when I poured it in.

Looked at my dead Diehard battery and noticed the top looks lumpy. Considering if I will jump start it soon or take it into Sears to see if they'll warranty it. It's an AGM and I've never seen one get wavy at the top.

Time for some New CV Axles.

I’ve decided to go with CVJs remanned OEM Toyota Axles with their high angle inner boot and OEM outer boot.

Pricey, but should be worth it in the long run.

    Anyone else running CVJs?

No, but I checked them out online. Looks like you’ll get a better product than the OEM based on what they do. Nothing wrong with remanned as long as the parts used to rebuild are high quality and based on your application.

Obviously I dont run any axles on my truck, but on my GTI I always get remanufactured. I haven't had problems with the hard parts, just boots from bad angles (too low).

Both mine were tore up for 50k miles and were still working fine (no clicks), but went ahead and had them replaced during all the front end work as it made economic/mechanical sense.

I considered regreasing and just putting a slip boot around the unit and caulking it together. If it still worked why not?

Yep. Whats to lose? You could repack and zip tie the boot fold overlap to hold it in place till the caulk sets up. Clean/Prep the rubber prior to caulk so it holds. Cheap and may hold for another 100k?

Do those just use regular auto grease? And what kind of caulk are you thinking? I'm trying to think of one that would work for that.

I’d use Moly lithium (same as what they say to pump into our propellor shaft u-joints that have needle bearings). Not sure what you are ‘suppose’ to use but makes sense. Fuse caulk works.

Or, just not do the repair and maybe never a problem for a long time.

Obviously, I never did a thing to mine until the replacement so this is an just ‘idea’ I had. You make the call.

Gotcha. I may just leave it for now as there are other things I need to get done on it as I get the time.

Just placed my order with CVJ. They seem to know their stuff. I’m excited to see how long they last!

My front left starting clicking (super loud) on turns after my last trip. These have 60,000 miles on them (3yrs) and have started cracking. I’m surprised they lasted this long. They are not OEMs... Ill be much more happy being back on OEMs!

Based on your driving through mud water up past the axles there is no doubt your CV’s are acting up. Nothing wrong with doing what you do with your truck as its yours to do with as you please.

I’ve driven through some salty water flows in years past and know they are probably responsible for my (yet to be professionally determined) front/rear wheel bearings problems. I’ll keep your CVJ place in mind in case needed in the future and look forward to your results.
