Well I suck at selfies so none of those . Depending on what we choose to do in the next couple years with the house(remodel or sell) I will have a dedicated building or at least full 2 car garage for the gym. I’m compacted to a 12x16 ft space now and having to move things around(bench, squat box etc). I don’t want to build to much stuff to level the floor. Then have to pull it out or destroy it to rebuild or move. I need more ceiling height too. Overhead pressing moves I have to make sure I’m directly under a light so the plates don’t hit it on the way up.

I know I’m lucky for sure though right now. I get to help a few friends get back into working out, teach the wife and kids and if I don’t want to wear shoes... chalk the shit out of my hands and deadlift I can!

Yes sir! I love it as well. Have the wife doing Shift right now and a husband/wife team coming over today to talk about it.
Started two months ago yesterday. I have been powerlifting for about a year and a half and wanted to add more conditioning. So now I lift 3 days a week and do street parking 3 or 4 days a week. Still trying to iron out this crazy schedule. I have had a couple days where street parking was before lifting days and it wrecked my lifts. But I’m learning to go back and visit other workouts from the week before I may have missed that won’t hurt my next day lift.

Edit: Congrats on your 1 year when you hit it!

I can't wait to be out of physical therapy and back into the gym. I'm jealous of all you healthy people. I lost motivation when I had my accident in February and put on 70 pounds :-( from power lifter to need a power lift lol . . . I did just get a membership to the Y and I am now doing a little cardio to kick things back up, but still not doing much, doctor's orders :bananadead:

    Lost track after #1.
The holidays were brutal this year so I'm having to break off the rust to get back on it. Have a number of injuries so need to take it slow in order to not aggravate them again. Nothing slows your roll faster than an old injury that knocks you out for a couple of months. Sucks getting old. Grrr.

I see that one you posted had Lungester’s in it....and a lot of them. :help: Did you do the 12 Days of Christmas? I did that one Program B with 95# bar. It took forever!!! Granted I’m not a CrossFit guru but I wasn’t going to quit either. 75 minutes of hell!!

Hope you heal and are released to full gym duties soon. Coming back after severe injuries is hard..but doable. Just have realistic expectations and goals and that should help.

Thanks, that's the hardest part. I was tired of my un fit life so I had got back into the gym pretty hard and was training for my first power lifting competition when the accident happened. So realistic expectations from here is going to be the hardest part. I won't be able to just go back in and start repping 445 squats any time soon, but I so badly want to. . . .

Yeah I get that. Do you follow a program or do your own programming?
Of course extent of your injury and location may limit what you can do. But there are good exercises that have carryover into the big 3 that you may be able to start with. Maybe even just to help with range of motion and getting into position too. Once you can get into position and lift maybe just run 5rm numbers and use those to run a 4-6 week training block before trying to go for a new 3-5rm and reset your training.

Of course your personal situation could vary a lot of that.

I have a hybrid system. I have a friend who is a certified personal trainer, and another who is ranked #1 in the nation at his age/weight class in powerlifting, who provide plans, but I self coach through them. I am a student of form though. I read Mark Riptoe's books and I study kinesiology as a hobby. As for my injuries. I had a truck jump a median in front of me and I t-boned him at 55+ MPHs. The result was neck and low back issues which resulted in arthritis and an over curvature of my lower back. I am still in a place where I am in constant pain and can only stand for about an hour before my back feels like it is on fire. I am still in PT twice a week

Hybrid like Powerlifting/body building or powerlifting/CrossFit?

Sounds like you have an excellent set of resources to help your recovery. Still hope everything goes good for you. Lower back injuries are not fun. I was in a bad car accident(car rolled 3x’s at over 100mph I wasn’t driving) took moths to be able to run or workout. It almost got me processed out of the Marine Corps. It’s been over a decade and the pain is starting to come back worse. Drastic changes in temperature outside seem to be the biggest culprit. I say all that with listen to your body.
My last attempt from that meet was with 615. I could have fought it but there is a point in which my back just has a sharp burning sensation. I hit that angle and just dropped the bar. It’s not worth it for me to ego lift. I’m not competitive so there is nothing to win.

I think I may pick up starting strength and the programming book.I have a high ranked coach as well but it would be nice to get behind the science and the math to know so that eventually I could set up my own program.

Bodybuilding/power lifting hybrid. Crossfit is not a good program for the vast majority of people. Most gyms know very little about form and they force people to move fast, and past fatigue, where the poor form breaks down even further and causes an injury, in addition to the over training that already occurred. This is why I recommend Mark Riptoe. He is a little bit of a pariah in that world because he says things like that and that the training needs of the beginner, intermediate, and advanced lifters are vastly different from one another. Also, he explains the chasm between training and exercise. Most programs and trainers advocate exercise, but what we all really need is training. We need specific goals and train for those goals. It is all very interesting.

The comment about CrossFit is the exact reason I avoided it for so long. Don’t get me wrong I’m just coming to terms with saying I do a powerlifting/CrossFit hybrid program. I started the CrossFit portion for the conditioning. I already have a top notch strength program. There seems to be a lot of top level lifters/coaches that are including hybrid programs now as well(either version) I wanted to include a top notch CrossFit program as well. I’m sure @Stroke250 would agree with me that Miranda and Julian(Street Parking founders) preach form. In the daily workout every time they are describing an exercise I see things like “heels down, chest up, straight back” etc. I have never been to a “box or affiliate” but we have all seen the videos on the internet. I’m sure there are a lot of good CF gyms out there though also.

I agree having a plan and training for that plan is important. Mine is to get as strong as I can and stay relatively lean. If I don’t ever have visible abs and shredded I don’t care. I would rather pull this 6 Hundo then start chipping away at 650.

There are definitely good crossfit gyms out there. My problem is it is on the exercise end of the spectrum, and too many people ego lift in crossfit, we see that in this posting where someone mentioned a difficult workout, but didn't want to quit. That very easily ends with over training and injury. If you have a solid program and do a crossfit or HIIT style cardio, that's awesome. Just keep it to that. You know? and don't get me wrong, I follow Matt Frasier. I know the crossfit world, and I love see what the pinnacle athletes can do. But their training sessions are much different from the standard WOD

They for sure do with form @Juanjoolio007 !! Plus, my twin brother is a Kinesiology major and has the hard to achieve certification from the NSCA so he drills form with me.

He hates CrossFit in the fact that some places don’t emphasize form just to lift heavy which promotes injury. But when done correctly the fundamentals of CrossFit and the workouts have great benefits.

The only thing over trained that day was my lungs lol. I am a bit of a sucker for some pain on both sides of the spectrum I like heavy sets of deficit deadlifts because I know the short 1.5” deficit helps immensely with off the floor power. I also hate/love things like Lungester’s and bar facing burpees in pyramid sets.

I am not training to be an elite level power lifter or a CF games athlete. I would rather be really good at both then to be great at one and suck at the other one.
I realize trying to do both of these is complicated and not for everyone. But it can be done.

Also I’m not here to change anybody’s mind on what they are doing. I simply asked because I feel the majority of people don’t have access to the kinds of people we do. Too many people nowadays pushing dumb stuff on the Gram or FB. Diet and fitness related and people just don’t know any better. We could take a sport we both like(Powerlifting)and single it out and have different training styles. Let’s not even start on the Sumo vs Convetional debate .

Edit: my phone got stuck in the matrix or something. I had to delete the quotes to get my post to show up. Stupid no cell service and bad WiFi.

Started working out and tracking macros a little over a year ago. My wife and I use beach body on demand mostly. But we just recently started doing workouts our macro lady provides. We do it all at home. We have the bow flex select tech weights for now. But I’ve lost 60 pounds. Got so tired of being tired and feeling like crap. We do weights 5 days a week and add cardio 2 or 3 days in the week. I wish I would have started working out sooner then I did. My wife has lost the same amount of weight, but she was working out 1 1/2 years before I started.
