Luckily I'm not. So bring on the 6ft box and smaller crewmax. I need the bigger box but also want the bigger cab.

Hell I'm "only" 6'-3", I say make the cab larger. Not much difference at this point.

If they don't offer a v8, but I have a bad feeling they are going to go with some kind of v6 in the next gen.

If they offer some lame gearing, that's my biggest complaint with the Silverado's. The gearing of the trucks on the lots on horrible for towing.

+1 on keeping the CM cab size, but make a 6.5' bed option.

The only thing that will get me out of my current Tundra willingly (paid off) and into another vehicle is a huge income increase and a 3/4 ton offering from Toyota.

Deal breakers if I were planning on replacing it with a new model would be:
    1. No V8 or less powerful V8.
    2. No Crewmax
    3. Smaller fuel tank
    4. Composite or Aluminum bed

No V8. Been driving a Ram and an F150 since my Tundra is in the shop getting a ding repaired (replacing bedside). Both those trucks suck after having a Tundra. My testosterone levels have surely dropped- getting Tundra back tomorrow though!

Not sure. I have a friend that works for TRD in the NASCAR engine department. He said the next Tundra was most likely gonna have a twin turbo V6 as Toyota was trying to get the Tundra to get 25mpg. I'm guessing the 4th gen will be a night and day difference to now, much like the first and second generation were.

If it’s anything like my turd gen Tacoma was, Atkinson/Otto 3.5l mini van type engine I’m out. That’s why I like the old school gas guzzling 5.7 engine that has actual torque and supercharger availability:)

Granted I love my 5.7L and I wouldn't want Toyota to offer a smaller displacement then the 5.7L for the sake of MPG. For my type of driving a V6 Turbo wouldn't give me any advantages and would just be a more complicated engine with more to fail.

For everyone else, why do you not want a turbo V6? I know that the Ford engine has issues, but most people agree it drives great with plenty of power. I'm sure if Toyota developed a turbo V6 it would perform very well as well as being very reliable. Any particular reason to stay away from a V6 Turbo if reliability isn't an issue?

I do not have an issue with a lighter V-6 Turbo as long as it can perform. IMO 3rd gen taco 2GR-FKS is a high reving engine that did not belong in a midsize truck.
Would hate for a similar mid-match scenario to happen to the new Tundra. Granted, the 3.5 feels fine in my wifes 19 Highlander.

I agree on the smaller displacement engines. I don't know why Toyota went from 4.0 to 3.5 in the Tacoma and is one of the reasons I got the Tundra over another Tacoma. If they kept the 4.0 displacement and added all the tech, then the power would have been awesome and it still would have done better in the MPG category.

If Toyota goes smaller displacement, then they need to add forced induction to the formula. If the next V8 is significantly smaller displacement with more tech, it will be a failure. A turbo V6 would make sense if I did a lot of highway or towing in the mountains. I don't do either, so my V8 works great. I'm sure I would get the same 12MPG in city if it was a V8 or Turbo V6 or anything else for that matter.

I agree. One of the reasons I got rid of my 3rd gen was the lack of low end torque. When towing my 3900lbs TT I would have to stay high in the rev band to climb any mountains here in Colorado. I understand the Tacoma is not a towing rig but with a 6000lb tow rating it did not perform well enough for me.

    No turbo please.
If for no other reasons than increased mechanical complexity (and possibly less reliability), and the fact that some insurance companies will use the 'turbo' label to jack your rates.

We want the same power or more with better mpg. If they could make a TT v6 that drives the same or better and as reliable then yeah sure. Or just add a turbo to the same 5.7 :curls: Also obv better payload. Beef up rear frame a little and beef up rear suspension a lot. Also a locker.

Well here are two different motors. Which one do you think will tow more efficiently?

The V8 - the V6 would be in the shop most of the time getting repaired.

In all seriousness, the numbers for the turbocharged V6's are impressive. But, I am not super concerned with fuel mileage - so if we are going to add forced induction into the equation, I'd rather do it on an engine that has more displacement. So, slap some turbos on the V8 and have the Engineers do their work and then see which one will pull better (at the cost of fuel mileage, of course). :)

I don’t know. Is that Lexus twin turbo v-6 I posted in the shop all the time? It has a very good reliability rating.

That torque comes on fast and hard...almost diesel like.

Deal breakers would be forced induction or other non-reliable goofiness ie. etorq, afm (please stick with a V8) and loss in reliability, which wont be known for a couple years after released.

Things I would like to see include better/more interior storage, better seats (limited seats aren't that great), fuel economy (not at expense of reliability), smoother ride. Not that these are terrible, but could be improved. Also all the stuff we have to add, bed lights, tailgate locks, etc, should be oem. Don't go to far with electronic switches to release tailgate or doors, but electric locks are reliable enough.
