I got two very similar quotes from Discount Tire and my local Toyota dealership (same tires, road hazard, mount balance etc.) Personally I would love to give Toyota my business, but with the Road Hazard plans, I might get better service through Discount Tire/America's Tire.

Anyone bought tires through the dealership? What was your experience?

My dealer will do aftermarket (Coop STT Pro), but with the advice of the peeps on here, I think I'll go with America's/Discount Tire.
    Thanks PEEPS!!

I vote discount as well. Did you factor free lifetime rotation into your pricing?

I've been using Discount tire since the early/mid 90's. They will deal with you, fix your stuff for free and if you come in with a crazy good deal from Amazon or whatever, they'll work with you. Dealers will sell you what they have at retail, mess up your wheels and then deny everything. Not to mention, if you travel and have a flat, you have options, DT are in lots of city's.

That's interesting. They offer better pricing on eBay? What's the scoop?

I was at the dealer today to have my wife's car serviced, and while waiting I was looking at their tire display. They stated that they will price match, they have a road hazard warranty included for a certain period (I don't remember how long) and they have a lifetime free rotation program included. I have never bought at the dealer since they have always been more expensive, but I will consider them next time if they price match. Would be easy to have the free rotation done every time I take it in for oil change (and yes, I do take my truck to the dealer for oil changes :anonymous:)

My dealer will price match but what really caught my attention was this past April they ran a buy 3 get the 4th for $1 deal. I purchased my Nitto Ridge Grapplers for somewhere in the $900's....thought that was a good deal.

About the only times I priced the dealer for tires they had the "Buy 3 get 1 Free" deal. The 3 tires were more expensive than buying 4 elsewhere for the exact same tires.

Discount tire all the way for me. They were able to give me a smoking deal around Labor Day. And for being a member on tacomaworld. Very easy to work with as well.

Discount Tire hands down. Dealership put on tires that were over a year old. They were dry rotting less than 2 years after purchasing. Discount Tire was cheaper too.

I vote for Discount. With the many locations you can go anywhere if you have a problem, maybe not so much if dealer purchased. Discount will get you in/out quicker too if needing a flat repair, etc. The only downside with Discount is that they are not open on Sunday's, but I doubt the dealers service department is open either.

Discount. They just priced matched tirebuyer.com for me on my new Coopers and saved me $200.

I have bought at least 10-12 sets of tires from Discount tires for 3-4 different vehicles though the years. In every case, if I had a problem with the tires, including them not getting the estimated mileage life, DT has discounted the next set, sometimes significantly. Plus they have stores all over the place, so if my kids can find one in the states in which they live, the records are online, and the kids get the same benefits for tires I purchased at DT where I live.

    DT over dealer for me.

Mine was not the case. From memory each tire was $315 or so and came out less that 250 per.

Also, discount will run black friday, cyber monday, labor day sales, usually about 20% off a matched price. I got a set of ST Maxx's for a crazy cheap price. 315/70/17's came out to well under a grand mounted and balanced.

When it comes to the dealer, it really depends how good that particular dealership really is, and how well they are managed.

If it’s one that is ran well and genuinely customer service based, they will usually have the same if not lower prices.

Discount does one thing and one thing only.
They do it well because they have done it so long.

Most Dealerships are still learning to be great at tires. Some have already mastered it.
If your dealership is completely utilizing Toyota’s tire program, they will have a tire specialist in place and a lot of those guy are actually former discount tire employees from what I’ve learned.

I would shop both and see what you find.
