It took him 5 hours to do it as well.

After this mornings commute on this "bad bearing hub" I took the thermal gun to the rotors/hub area. Both sides were identical in temperature.

It could be just me, but in my experiences with my career, a bad bearing heats up quick. My commute is 13 miles at 75 mph. I think that is long enough to heat up or test.

Last night I also looked up what these bearing hubs cost. The most expensive hub assembly is Blue Pit bearings at 419.00 and they want to charge 1050.00 to change out a bearing hub? Wow..

Little update. Some good news, and some bad.

Good news: I saved a ton of money by staying with USAA.
My deductible is only 50.00, not 75.00.

Bad news: after the truck was at the dealer from 7am-4pm, noise is still there. Out flippen standing. Truck going back in tomorrow at 8:45 and I am driving around with the tech. Guess my heat gun test was right.

The drivers side bearing hub cost was a lot less on the paperwork too..by more than half.

Thanks Toyota for the really cheap bearing hub. Front differential next. I'm gonna use that warranty like a boss.

So I just got back with the tech working on my truck. He can denfinately hear it now. Maybe if they turned down the radio they might be able to hear it. Yesterday I turned on my radio and it was rockin.

So get this, the tech asked "how long have you had the lift on it..."

I looked at him and told him these shocks only lift the truck 3/4" on the lowest setting, and that is where it is at. The TRD Pro is 2" of lift.....

    This might get fun.

Lift has nothing to do with the inner bearing going bad.. it's a bad design..

    Dumb AF tech...

Yep. If they deny warranty, I will deny Toyota any future sales, period.

This truck has been used as a tow rig, not an Offroad truck.

Unless the axle coming out of the clam shell is angled (I guarantee its not) that would be there only bs call.

Tech was wrong, he didn't prove it... Now he will blame everyone but himself because he was LAZY...

What a mess, but that Toyota care saved you. I purchased private party not through the dealer and didn't add anything. Got hit hard with the steering rack.
They will try to deny warranty with lift but it just takes some extra discussions to get them to agree.

So you guys are going to love this.

I talked to my service rep, he started on the whole lift issue and I pretty much gave him a lesson in suspension.

Then he said we can put a new differential in and it will come back most likely.

Last option is to put the ECGS bushing in and warranty doesn't cover it.

    Toyota fail.

Probably put the new diff in and get rid of this thing before 100k

There is no reason to go up there. His manager would offer the same thing.

I am just going to fix it myself with the bushing kit, install, removal tool, and new seal. It would be smart, since I own a Tacoma as well...for now.

I have to be honest, I have always been treated great at Chevy dealerships. Now I have been a Chevy die hard for a long time and still am. With my older GM vehicles, they actually never seen the inside of a dealership. It wasn't until 2013 when I had to take the Corvette in several times for certain issues.

Al Serra Chevrolet in this town will do whatever is necessary to get a smile on your face.

The thing is, I have spent a buttload of time on this truck this week to not get a problem fixed, my Jeep build taking a huge hit since I needed to run and get parts..etc. We have been looking at commuter cars, and this just totally justifies having one. Hell, we haven't even had the $10K in vehicle damage done from hail yet. My truck will be gone for about 2 weeks and the Tacoma..who knows.

Oh, and all these days at the dealership, I had to hound them about it. My truck has been sitting out back since 1230 today with what I told you guys around 4.

They did offer to swap out the differential or do the upgraded bushing (just not under warranty for the bushing). Not much else to do right?

Good thing is I recieved a new wheel bearing for 50.00 and it will be easier to remove everything to install the bushing in the diff.

Ha ha!!! You are wise beyond years Ron!!

I didn't even ask about what that cost was. Since they were going to charge me 1050.00 to do a wheel bearing, I knew it was going to be high.

So u have a noise all the time? 4x and 2x? Turning doesn't change it? Under load or coast?
There is a tsb for the bearings in the front diff and carrier assembly. Done a couple. Typically the noise significantly lessens in 4wd for that tsb

The noise is only above 30 mph. Placing it in 4wd, noise goes away, comes back when in 2wd.

A good tech would of never put a wheel bearing in it knowing it changed with 4wd application.... wheel bearings typically change tones or go completely away when turning loading and unloading that side

So if it was you, new front Diff or just do the upgraded bushing from ECGS?

I have maintained my drivetrain very well, so not sure I want another front diff in my truck from another truck. Not sure if they are remanufactured diff or new one.
