Taking the Fam to Kauai and we fly out tomorrow - and I’ve done exactly zero research for activities on Kauai! We are bringing snorkel gear and shoes for hiking. And a beer koozie, of course!
Any recommendations are appreciated for anything on the island! Kids are 6 & 10, so they can put down a few miles but nothing too crazy.

We’ve been to Maui and O’ahu but never Kauai.
I’ll be on the search for shrimp tacos!

We’re staying around the corner from Kalapai Joes - and I really wish I would’ve taken a picture of our plates. I was skeptical about the place - but food was actually pretty decent.
We managed to land, hit up Costco, unpack, and make it out boogie boarding for the evening. It’s been 10+ years since I’ve been on decent waves LOL. So far good times. We are the 4 adults with 6 kids - type of people - on the trip LMAO. We’ve disrupted, but not too terrible. My family is good - but my buddies 4 year old boy is a hurricane.

PS - note for anyone traveling to Hawaii with kids: Costco has Boogie Boards for $27.00. That’s about 1-2 days rental LOL. We’re here for 10 days, so obviously getting our monies worth.
Also: Car Rental - COSTCO! Holy shit. We were just about to book a medium sized SUV for $650, and my buddy a Suburban for $850.
A friend gave us the Costco Travel tip - log onto Costco Travel, take 3 minutes to setup an account, and save 50%.
Our rental for 10 days went from $650 to $275. My buddies (told him after we landed, so he might not have received such a great deal) went from $850 to $575.
Even if you vacation once a year, Costco Travel discount on the Car Rental is beyond worth the $50-$100 membership dues.
Pricing mentioned - is AFTER taxes. By the way ;)

Gaylord’s is a nice restaurant. Go to Waimea canyon it’s like a mini Grand Canyon. Do the Jurassic park helicopter tour. The Napali coast is beautiful if you take a boat ride out there. Princeville is a nice spot.

I’m much more useful for Oahu however as it’s been my home for 20yrs. Have fun!

We have Waimea Canyon on the agenda (hike)!
I’ll look up the Jurassic park tour.
We kept telling our son this is where it was filmed, so every mountain he sees he reminds us that Jurassic park was in them woods Lol.
We wanted to do zip-lines, but I guess there is a 7yr old min restriction and my son is only 6.
    Thanks for the boat tip!

TC long travel. Deaver 420 SU leaf packs.
No one has suggested Hanalei Bay????? Great for kids. Nice view of the other side of of Waimea canyon and the wettest spot on earth. 400+ inches of rain per year.
Mermaid Cafe in Kapaa  and there's a river kayak thing just after Kapaa on your way to Hanalei.

I recognize that beach in Poipu too, stayed right across the street once. Decent little break to the right of the restaurant blow holes at the park and a cool tourist market.

Already lots of great suggestions so far!
There is a shaved ice place not far from you called The Fresh Shave or something like that. It’s a food truck with mustache logos and shaved ice, can’t miss it. The wife and kids absolutely loved it.
Waimea canyon is great, and an easy day trip/ drive. If you rented a 4x4 there’s a couple fun trails over there as well. Definitely do the kayak tour to the fern grotto. There’s two options, one guided and one not guided. I recommend getting the not guided one (show up right before they open to make sure you get a kayak) Much more fun and worth the money as you get the kayaks all day. You can do the fern grotto, hike to the waterfall and swimming hole all in one trip. The tubing that someone mentioned looks awesome and was on our list but they book out way in advance, hopefully you guys are able to make it!
If you can do a date night, check out The Beachouse. Make a reservation at sunset and you’ll earn mega points with the wife. A little pricey but the steaks and mai tais are completely worth it. The Kauai Rum Factory is pretty cool too, free tasting and good dinner.
If you’re into hiking and want to go to the other side of the island, there is an awesome Hike there to the Hidden Beach, keep going and you reach a pretty awesome waterfall. It’s a good 7 miles or so each way.
My personal favorite... rent a Harley for the day and cruise the island :)

Was this the tunnel of trees? I’m guessing so! It was an awesome drive from the airport to our house!
The landscape is so amazingly beautiful!

Kauai is my favorite place. Been there many times. For kids, here are things to try (without repeating too many of the already great suggestions):
Captain Andy's for the Na Pali coast tour: https://www.napali.com/
For a super touristy but fun luau, Smith's Tropical Paradise: https://www.smithskauai.com/
Rent SUPs in Hanalei to paddle up and down the river
Look for sea turtles to swim with at Ke'e beach
Jump off the pier at Hanalei Bay
Take an ATV tour. There's one that takes you to swim near a waterfall and along the way you'll see lots of sites, including places where many movies were filmed.
Take a drive through the small towns, like Hanalei and around Waimae, and your kids may recognize some scenes from Lilo and Stitch.
    Have fun!

Thanks for the tip on non-guided Kayaks! My buddy said that he enjoyed it years back but wished it wasn’t guided.
We have some pretty young ones - so no 14mile hikes for us on this trip. I’d love to take the wife if we were kid-free though.
