Hey all, as the title suggests I'm wondering if those TRD shocks offered are worth upgrading to. I'm planning the rear (and front) sways being installed, and questioning if the accessory shocks are worth it, or should I stay stock, or look elsewhere? No I don't plan to lift the truck. Just want the most stable, and best ride/handling possible for this beast. Thx.

I'm assuming you are referring to the TRD off-road shocks? They would probably be a decent upgrade over the stock shocks that come on the Platinum's. The ride will be firmer and better handling off-road. Keep in mind that they are non-adjustable, but since you don't plan on lifting the truck that might not be an issue for you.

You may also want to look into Bilstein 5100's all around. They are adjustable, which would give you the ability to level/lift the truck in the future. The 6112/5160 combo is even better, but would be overkill if you are set on not lifting.

Sounds like he is thinking of the TRD Pro shocks/coilovers, right?

The TRD Pro suspension kit would lift the truck which is why I figured we was referring to the TRD off-road shocks.

These are the red shocks in the accessories section of the configurator, where you can find the sway bars and other red stuff too. They are not the coilovers. Thx, peeps.

I'm not familiar with the red shocks, but am wondering if they are similar to what comes on the TRD Sport model. The 4600 series that come with the TRD Off-Road package are yellow and blue.

For clarity, I'm referring to the "TRD Performance Shocks" you can find them in the PERFORMANCE portion of the accessories section of the vehicle configurator. You can also find them here (third row down):

    https://www.toyota.com/tundra/accessories/performance

These are not the Off-Road TRD shocks...in the details section it says:

"Improve the on-road driving experience of your Tundra with TRD performance shocks. Get less lean during maneuvering and a well-managed ride.
    • Includes front and rear TRD tuned shock absorbers
    • On-road racing inspired TRD Performance shock absorbers were specifically designed to increase the on-road driving experience focusing on ride, handling, and steering response
    • Enhances steering response and body control
    • Reduces vehicle roll, braking dive, and take off acceleration squat
    • Compatible with 2WD and 4WD Tundras"

The way they're described seems to be what I'm looking for. My gut feeling is they may have been made by Bilstein for on-road use. Wondering if anyone has had any experience with them, and/or if I should go elsewhere for a better on-road shock set . lol

Buy the 5100’s, better long term investment. Paying retail for TRD shocks not worth it. If your set on TRD shocks ask around sure someone is selling a pair in excellent condition.

Nope not set on the TRD shocks. Just figured it would be nice to have them when I take delivery of the truck new. Convenience. The TRD shocks are actually a much better (configurator page price) deal than the 5100's. But the 5100 fronts ARE adjustable...

    Thanks, Everyone!

4600 are actully quite soft and are nose divey. TRD sport Hitachi shocks are crazy stiff. Both not worth it imo. Get 5100s at minimum
