Dash creak/squeak/rattle

Don’t take out the headliner. It’s probably the plastic cover that hides the wires between the headliner and the rear view mirror. Remove that piece and I bet the noise goes away. When you reinstall it, use some double sided tape.

 

This piece rattles, cracks and pops.

That was the exact cause of my passenger side noise 1 of them anyway.Other was down at the bottom on the a pillar.Extremely poor materials and design Toyota! and quality control in some cases

 

Yes its gone, I just pulled down on the headliners with my fingers till I found the glue and pulled if off.

 

My rattle was coming from the passenger side glovebox area. (Or so it seemed) I did my research and tried all the different opinions everyone had, from the door pillar jam to the window jam fix as well as the possible ECM being loose or even the plastic cover by the rear view mirror. Nothing helped. So I finally broke and took my truck into the service department and after 2 long days of waiting they found the problem! It was a heat shield that had come a bit loose and was resonating through the cab at higher speeds. Not sure which shield but it may be another place to look if you have that annoying rattle/tick. Hope it helps someone.

 

Was it a heat shield underneath the truck? What RPM's was this happening to you at?

 

Yes it was underneath the truck. And would hear the rattle starting at around 40 mph.

 

Ok, thanks. Those aren't the symptoms I'm having, so I can rule that out. Glad to hear you got your issue fixed!

 

These trucks are rattle boxes, not sure why. My sons 02 impala has a tighter interior than my 18 Tundra.

 

2. Passenger side door makes a bit of noise below about 35 degrees, not much to do that is an easy fix. I just chalk this one up as a loss, and it is not horrible at all.

3. Inside glove box, the panel that allows access to the cabin filter tends to make noise if not installed/reinstalled properly. Worth a look and adjustment if not seated properly.

4. Glove box door tends to creak/rattle when its REALLY cold (and I get a lot of those mornings). Fixed with some thin foam padding (adhesive on one side) in key areas of your choosing.

ANNNDDDD the one that took me FOREVER to find- to include thinking it was the A-Pillar, "oh shit" handle, glove box, windshield/dash meeting point and about a million other things... There is a small piece of plastic in front of the windshield on the EXTERIOR of the truck that meets the underside of the hood. The passenger side on my truck, for whatever reason, decided to make noise when the cold was enough create a gap or something. I folded some cardboard wrapped in duct tape over the plastic so that there was constant contact and pressure between the plastic and hood. That fixed it!! I will address a permanent fix this spring- again.




If you guys really wan't the glove box noises to stop use this foam tape, i had a million noises coming from there but i put this tape on the removable tray and other areas in the glove box and it is 100 silent now. Got it from Amazon. I have also put small amounts on my armrest box to lessen the vibrations. Great sound and vibration deadening material.

The passenger side noise I have goes away once the heater gets going. I cant imagine what causes that since the truck is always garaged.

My '02 4Runner was tighter for sure. Sure wasnt as comfortable though

 

Is it a buzzing noise? I have the same thing, I had a friend come for a ride with me, it was already starting to quiet down but he was sure it was coming from the blower motor under the glove box. When I turned the fan off, the noise would almost completely go away. I've got an appointment with the dealer, I'm going to ask them to give the blower motor a once over to make sure everything is tightened down and in order. No idea if this will solve the issue. I've had this happen in the summer as well, but only for a minute or two at a time and then only very sporadically (once every few weeks).

 

More of a slight rattle.

My Tundra with 2700kms (1700 miles) has a horrible squeak coming from the dash/windshield area. My truck was fine up until a couple of weeks ago, when it got cold. The temperatures went down to about -31F for a week, and that's when the truck started making noise. I chalked it up to the cold weather...when temperatures get that cold, vehicles do funny things and different noises are to be expected. But then when it warmed up again (currently about -10C/14F) the noises stuck around, and I'm left with a dashboard/windshield area that is sqeaking/creaking every time I go over a bump or an imperfection in the road.

I checked, it's nothing up by the headliner, and I've eliminated the rearview mirror area, including the little wire cover that a few of you have pointed out. I'm pretty sure it's the area where the dash meets the windshield and the passenger A-Pillar. I haven't confirmed it for sure, but that is about where it sounds like its coming from. I'm not sure what to do at this point. If I take it back to the dealership, will they do anything? Is this noise just something that is to be expected from a $50 000CAD truck?

Honestly, I'm a little (a lot) disappointed. I expected, when I bought a Tundra, to have a vehicle that was built to a pretty high standard. Instead it has just as many squeaks and rattles as my 7 year old Dodge Grand Caravan, which is hardly one of the best vehicles ever built.

 

Take it to the dealer. It seems new materials in all new vehicles are harder and rattle more......

 

Service appointment booked. I'll let the dealership have a look at it first.

 

Is it a squeek or snapping noise like someone doing Morris Code??? I have the latter problem. It could be the excess plastic from the edge of the headliner hitting the window.

 

Mine had a tapping sound near the windshield in 30-40 temps. Tech took the cowl off twice and finally fixed it.

 

Going into the dealer this morning to see if they can help with the buzzing/rattling noise that comes from under the glove box. I have audio of it recorded, hopefully that helps convince them I'm not crazy if it stays quiet today.

 

My 2015 CM just started this as well. Only happens when its under 50 degrees. Drive me crazy

 

Ok, back from the dealer. They took apart the blower motor. They did find part of a leaf in the blower motor, but it seems unlikely that it was the cause. Otherwise, they were baffled. I played them audio of the noise, and they agreed it would drive them crazy as well. Since leaving the dealer, everything has been quiet. I let her wait an hour in the cold and took her out, still quiet. I'm cautiously optimistic that the reassembling of the blower motor may have cured the buzzing/rattling. Maybe it was the leaf, or maybe it was something as simple as a screw that had lost some torque and the reassembly tightened things up enough to silence it. I'm not ready to do the victory dance yet, I'll report back to this thread about my results in a week. Fingers crossed.

 

For the last couple months, while cold, I’ve been dealing with an annoying rattle, tap and squeak in the glovebox area. I thought it was the ECM.

Just the other day, I removed my owners manual and the shelf inside the glovebox. Noise gone.

Alright. I took the truck to the dealership, and went for a ride with the tech to help him pinpoint the noise. It was very apparent, and it didn't take him long to isolate the noise. it turns out it is the wiper cowl that is loose on the passenger side and is rubbing against the windshield. He ordered a new wiper cowl and will replace it when it comes in.

 

Oh yeah, I got that thing out of there weeks ago. My noise is back, it's only when it's cold, then it mostly quiets down. I guess it's tolerable (not that I have a choice) but I'm going to keep trying to figure it out.

Hey there. Could you post a picture of the area where you put the cardboard? I'm having a little trouble picturing where you put it.

 

That is the exact place where my creak is coming from. Dealer ordered a new part under warranty.
