Trailer Brake Error/Pre-Collision System Malfunction

. I took it to the dealership and they claim that it is a mouse that ate the harness that is in between the intakemaniful and the engine I say it not true. can some one help please

Yes indeed , but since they claim that it not a warranty issue I had to pay $700.00 to get it fix. is there a recall in the past for this kind of warnings? that maybe the assessment from the dealership is not true?

 

they haven't fix anything I am waiting on my insurance

 

well I believe the dealership I lying because I have live in my house for 20 years and had different vehicle and none until now have had a rodent problem, see I should look inside the hood before I took it to the dealership but I did not so if the mechanic in the effort to make it look like it was the rodents who did it he probably just put those acorns pieces on top of the engine cover to make it look like the rodents did it. on and all after the insurance proves the repairs I should be paying for the deductible only, but I found out there has been being problems with this warning before dated 2016. so I figure the dealership has an effort to not blame it on the manufacture, but so far I don't have physical proof so make my case. what a week!!!

 

Definitely looks like rodents. Tell them to show you the chewed wire. Could also try to clean it all up and go to a different dealer if you think they are lying to you. But I’m sure they already put a comment in the system. I don’t think they’d make it up as they still get paid for warranty work, just at a lower rate. And that’s pretty unethical. My old dealer fought and got some stuff for me under warranty when i was out on my old truck.

Also the PCS is new to 18+, so it’s not an issue since 2016.

Its a common issue on the 2018 and newer trucks. If rodent they need to show you wires that were eaten. They have a sensor in the grill that either needs replace or recalibrated. Try another dealership if you have another one close to you.

 

Yea I will ask to see the wires, I just did expect to see this at all.

 

New technology that Toyota hasnt quite worked out all the issues. It happened to me and quite a few others here as well. Good Luck with getting it all fixed under warranty but your dealer should be able to fix free of charge if not rodents.

 

That engine cover sure looks like an incontinent mouse (mice) was (were) dining there.
I have friends who never had a problem with mice, then with one car mice were eating the wiring. Repaired harness 3 times for thousands of $ each time. Gave up, sold the car. Never a problem with subsequent cars.
Some wires just seem to smell tasty to mice. Acorn for dinner, wires for desert. Warm engine makes a great winter dining room.
If you garage it, I would assume you have a mouse problem & deal with it, even if you don't see any sign of them.
IME, some vehicles just attract mice; you need to aggressively fight them NOW before they have at it again.

 

My 2018 crew is starting to have same pcs malfunction. Dealer found nothing so far. 3 month old, trim under windshield bad, protection shield on hood stained. Didn't have tire repair insurance, got nail near side wall, $220.00 later

 

Those nut shells.look like rodent. I had a Tacoma, chewed knock sensor wires under the valve cover. Had to take everything off and solder/heat shrink them. I wouldn't doubt the dealer on this one.

 

Definitely rodent damage. Unfortunately they probably chewed throughout the knock sensor wire harness under the intake manifold. Sadly this has happened to me three times. Has anyone done this repair DIY. It’s about a $800 fix at the dealer and although it’s covered by insurance I’d like to try myself since the $800 is almost all labor. Thanks!

 

Did you ever see the so called mouse damage? That issue you had is the same thing that’s been going on with the 2018 and 2019. It’s now part of the recall.

Do you know what the recall is for? For anyone listening it’s definitely rodent damage. Plenty of signs (droppings etc.) I’ve tried about everything to prevent/trap/kill them. It’s seems that Pine-Sol soaked rags have done the trick to keep them away. The rats are a huge fan of the knock sensor wire harness and the cabin air filter

The involved vehicles are equipped with a Pre-Collision System (PCS) that may automatically apply the brakes if the system detects a potential collision. Due to the mounting of one of the system’s sensors, it is possible for water to enter the sensor. This can lead to PCS deactivation or inadvertent brake activation resulting in limited deceleration for a short duration of time.

 

I had the same two errors today while off-road in 4x4, nothing crazy. I was turning slightly to the left to get out of some big ruts on a diet road created by some logging trucks when it did it. Do the two systems run off of the same sensors? I was surprised to see the trailer brake error with the collision system error.


The messages went away after shutting truck off and back on. The slip indicator (little car with wavy lines) stayed on for 5 minutes or so after and eventually went off.

 

@lunchbox I have seen some these symptoms present after several straight days of rain...BUT collision error cleared after 15-20 minutes of driving in dry conditions.

 

any one else have this issue?

I got it a bit after I went long travel. Went away then the traction control light stayed on for a bit

 

Just picked up new to me 2020 Tundra w/28k miles. Put 2000 miles driving back to Alaska. Been home 2 days. Took small trip this morning (about 1.5 hours driving) and parked. Got in this afternoon and about a mile down the road trailer brake and pre-collision errors. Took cursory look at engine wires and sensors in grill and nothing obvious. Anything I can test/try before making 50 mile trip to dealer? New to group and Tundra. Own 2012 Prius 183k and 2013 Tree 150k.

 

Is the truck stock or lifted or any other mods? Was it raining? That can cause it to temporarily turn off. If it doesn’t clear, you can try to unhook the battery for 15 to reset everything and see if works. If it stays off, at least your truck is still under warranty.

 

All stock, no lift. Raining yes. I'll give it some drying time and try resetting via battery disconnect. Thank you for the reply.

 

Mine has turned off in rain that wasn’t even that heavy before. That might have been it.
