Apparently not a week...Just got back my bone density scan results............Seems that my left leg/groin pain issues were not in my head. Osteoporosis indicated in my left hip/femur due to med regimen. More drugs ahead......s**t!

    Good luck on your treatments.
My father had prostate cancer, successful removal.
From all the reading I have done on it, my understanding is if you live long enough, almost 100% of men will get it eventually. The key is how aggressive it is, and keeping it from spreading.
    Good luck.

Sorry to hear about the bone density results, Matt. But at least you've only got a couple months left on those other meds. Hopefully the meds for the osteoporosis will be a lot kinder to your system than what you've been on.

Several years ago, my best friend was diagnosed with prostrate cancer. He was in his early forties. I spoke to my doctor about it and was told that when you get it young, it is typically aggressive and it would be unlikely he lived past five years. Well he is a year older than me and he is now 54. It has been about a decade and he is going strong. Ever since then, I have my PSA checked annually and so fate my numbers come back well below 1 and I'm grateful.

    Matt

Somehow just reading this thread for the first time. So sorry to hear about all your health issues and may GOD BLESS YOU and your FAMILY- prayers and thoughts!!!

My father @ 72’ had the “ seeds” in planted for his small amount of prostate cancer and it was SUCCESSFUL and has been almost a year now. Very happy he caught it early!!

I’m 46’ now and going to DR for yearly check next week. My Dad experience alone should have made me get checked already, but ur post has reminded/pushed me to ask for PSA
Next week! Also going to ask Dr about starting some preventive measures!!

I myself have had way too many health / medical issues /several surgeries for my age.
I know first hand how it is to get surprised with a life threatening medical issue that knocks u on ur ASS!!

Thx again for sharing/ starting post

Stay STRONG Matt and good luck Tundra brother !!

This new condition was a possibility. My urologist is on vacation but will go over actual results with me next week. My Docs' PAC told me too boost up my vitamin D intake.

The methodology in attacking and treating prostate cancer has come a long way. I have a very aggressive form but as of now seems to be at bay.

I am pretty active. No trampoline though. I do a lot of snow shoeing when I have time, hiking open spaces near me, and use my weight set. I get up and down a lot at work and actually do quite a bit of lifting. My doc says I'm doing pretty good considering the powerful meds I'm on. So many of his patients become couch potatoes and develop serious issues that he has to treat.

It sucks a bit. Not too surprised because I've been having some very unusual pain in my hip. Bad enough to prevent me from going hunting this year. That definitely sucked. It was suggested to me yesterday that they might have me continue with Lupron in addition to the Pred/Zytiga treatment until May when I go off all this. THAT....I'm looking forward to..

Thanks Bill! That "seed" treatment can be hugely affective. Unfortunately for me my prostate was too far gone to try and save it. The best thing of course is for the cancer to go away. Sometimes it can be persistent and in that case it needs to be kept from spreading to other areas. I'll know for sure after May if my cancer has been killed off for good.

How "much" money we talking about?? I need a RCI transfer case skid....heh...heh...
Actually I got a Lupron shot in the butt a half hour ago. I was off Lupron but was decided to go back on it. Supposed to help with the bone loss issues.

One of the side affects of my med regimen is I bleed easily now. I will barely scratch my skin and I start bleeding. Most times I don't even know it unless a coworker tells me. I just noticed this while washing up..................

Just had monthly chat with my urologist. Blood panels were as expected which is good. Bone density scan....Not so great. One of the side effects of the Lupron/Prednisone/Zytiga therapy is loss of bone mass. Bone scan results are based on a "T" score. Anything less than a T2 is indicating osteoporosis. My forearm bone mass was normal but neck, spine, and femur scores were from T-1.7 to T-2.1. Negative T scores. So....I'll be starting Prolia injections to deal with that. Another interesting sideaffect......I was 5' 10.5" prior to chemo therapy. I'm now 5' 9.5" . Yep, I shrunk a inch. I certainly know how to have fun!

Whoa! Crazy, I had no idea Matt!
I read the first few pages, and apologize if it was previously mentioned - but was this hereditary? I’m 38 here in 3 weeks, and will make sure to ask the DR for precautionary measures.
It sounds like it’s been a rollercoaster for you. You’re in our thoughts and prayers over here!

No one in my family has had prostate cancer. I recommend if you're 50+ to get a PSA test done. 40ish is a bit early but can't hurt. Unless you don't like needles...heh...heh..

I slipped on my ass getting out of my truck at work. My large soda and food went flying...heh...heh... Apparently bones aren't too bad. Didn't break anything but my cell phone was in my back pocket and is now bent a bit.....

Woah! First off thank you for starting the thread. I agree we are too often to prideful to go to the friggin doctor! Cancer of all types runs in my family (leukemia, brain, prostate, breast...and diabetes). While I'm only 25 this is a good reminder to get my yearly physical and take care of myself. I will be asking my doctor about a PSA test (after you mentioned the 29 year old firefighter) and see if they can add that to my yearly blood panel. Why not right? Can't hurt for sure!

My grandfather had it, my dad is in remission from it, my uncle died from it. I'm 48 and get up to pee at least once a night. Just scheduled my first checkup. Wish me luck.
