I was unable to get an extended warranty also, told me to pound sand.

Drive yours hard now since the repair make sure she's going to hold together. Also change your oil within 500 miles as well.

No wonder they arent giving extended warranties away anymore...they cant even pay the techs/mechanics for the actual proper time it takes to do the repair. So the techs feel rushed, you are sol down the road and they probably made up for it all by raising the prices on new tundras.

Jeeze, that's pretty generous. I'd be happy with like a 3 year extension—it'll probably take me 13 years to hit 100k.

Oh....I forgot to include that it was a 7 year warranty. So only four years extension on the bumper to bumper.

I went through about the last 10 pages looking at pictures. At first I thought my leak was the passenger side cam tower but now I think it's different. Mine seems to be further "under" the engine. Could someone please confirm/deny? Any thoughts on what it may be? I have closer pics from the endoscope if need be...

Extended warranty got shot down for me as well. I told the rep I would be buying Ford from now on. A total lie of course.....

Just thought I’d update after about 15k miles since they fixed mine. No leaks, and I honestly can’t tell that anything has been done to the truck. I’m confident it’s fixed and won’t be a problem down the road. I get some people are upset their new truck has an oil leak, and it’s not an easy one to fix, but in the grand scheme of things it’s not a big deal.

Thanks for posting the update, good to hear that the cam towers aren’t leaking. Great attitude.

Haha, exactly. I told them I'll probably look elsewhere when we buy my wife a new SUV in the next few years, but then I think what the other options are... Toyota knows that as well.

Agree. Still the best truck on the road. Go to an F150 forum if you want to see real problems.

Update, I picked up my truck today. They fixed both sides. I can see a nice bead of black sealant where the leaks were. Truck drives the same. Everything looks good under the hood. I’m a huge Toyota fan and they should have fixed this problem by now. From my research this is the only big problem with Tundras and once fixed truck should be solid and reliable like most Toyota’s. I bought an extended warranty before this leak came up. I have 5 years left on it and will sell before it runs out. This is a major repair but the service writer said any Master Mechanic can do it with no problems.

Did they only put the black sealant where it was leaking? Maybe I just misread what you meant, but they should have re-sealed the entire cam tower with the black sealant.

    Edit to my earlier post:

I thought everything felt fine after my repair, but I was merging onto the freeway today and accelerated hard for the first time since my repair. Under hard acceleration I noticed a much-louder-than-usual and pronounced ticking coming from the engine. I went into the dealer and asked to drive another Tundra on the lot to see if I was just being paranoid. They found the lowest salesperson on the totem pole to take me on a drive and I could not duplicate the sound. They suggested I take it into the service dept on Monday and have the technician ride with me.

I'm honestly about to lose it over this whole thing. :frusty:

I feel your pain, but maybe it is the ACIS kicking in? Happens around 4K ish rpm, sounds very different, and can vary on interference engines.

But why would it just suddenly start doing it when it never did before the cam tower job?

First oil change? They always get noisier with fresh oil change, nature of the beast with the oils used for fuel economy requirements and modern engine design. There is very little that can go wrong with your repair short of the timing chain being off, and you would know that immediately. Slight chance a piece of FIPG gasket material made it through the filter and clogged something, but that is really a stretch. Not saying nothing is wrong, but run the snot out of it, will break or forget about it.

@SR5TRDTUNDRA wondering what dealership did the repair on your truck? I’m in Red Deer and have a ‘12 Sequoia Platinum with 79,000 miles (imported from US in ‘13 with 7k miles) that just started to leak while away skiing in BC.

Will need to check my Tundra Platinum too when I get home this week.

No problema! Try to get them to do both sides so it’s good to go. I thought it they will if other side isn’t leaking but that’s hurt to ask.

I persisted and got both sides done even though the passenger wasn't leaking.
