Found a good deal on this rack today and I need to buy the adapters so I can keep my bed rails in my 2016. Thule's closed today and don't want to wait till monday. I believe the adapters are XK3 adapters but everything I read say up to 2015's. Hate to have to send something back that doesn't fit. Can anybody verify this for me and if not which adapter am I looking for? Also if you have these racks how do you like them. Going to carry sup's and surf boards.

Just read that the bed rails are the same as the previous year but may be located at different distance than the 2015's. If that's the case they would have to be different dimensions. May have to wait until Monday to call thule. I'll post what I find out then.

I just spoke to Thule about an adapter so you could keep the bed rail tracts when you install the 500xt rack. He said they had them for a tacoma and they weren't needed for a tundra all you had to do is remove the tracks. I explained why many buyers don't want to do that, so he said he would speak to his manager and then hopefully forward something to R&D. I also sent an email.

There are no adapters to use with the tracks. I have this rack for hauling kayaks, not very impressed. Replaced metal components that attach to the bolts to tighten to bed rails and all plastic pieces are broken from raising and lowering. Also have a Yakima roof rack for my truck and again not impressed. Plastic coating over crossbars is splitting. I hope soon to have someone build a custom rack to haul kayaks that will attach to the tracks in the bed.

I had a 2013 Tundra and used the adapter for the Tacoma factory rail system. You have to loosen the factory rail bolts and slide the adapter to secure the base of rack then retighten the factory rail system, it's a tight fit but it works and still got to use the factory rail system for hooks and tie downs, plus I had mine custom painted black....wish I still kept them for my newer 2017 tundra on order.

Powder coat black. Option of gloss or matte depends on your style. Will need to remove all plastic and bolts

Were you able to keep the factory rail system on the Tundra? It’s hard to tell from your picture.

Need to order the Tacoma rail clamps. Thule will say they will not fit. Need to make a plastic shim. Here’s pics

Thanks! Ultimately, these racks will work for my boards/OC but may not work for an RTT. I *think* I just read that they aren't rated for the weight/dynamic load. We'll see...

I looked at this rack for my new truck this morning and left, not wanting to cut a foot off of my rails. Then I saw this shim. How has it been working for you? Did you shim the whole bed or just in the area of the rack base? I have the 6.5 foot bed. I wonder if the smaller bed rails would work so as not to need to cut mine and use the stock clamps.

The shins are just enough to have the factory rails and the Thule clamps to tighten and secure the racks to bed rails. I have had no issues and a lot of Tundra owners asked me where I got the shims. Did not want to lose my factory rails and still get the Thule bed truck racks.....”cake and eat it it too”

Like PaulROAHU said just need a shim and the tacoma clamps. Fits perfect. I went to a shop who sells plexiglass and had them cut perfectly. Im so happy to have my utility rack back.

How many Tacoma kits did you have to buy? Everything I'm seeing it only comes in a set of 4.

I set has (8) clamps with (2) locks, that is for (2)bed racks. If you buy the “black” powder coated ones, make sure you buy the “ black” Tacoma rail clamps. The kit is only for the non rail types

Did you buy the XK3 or XK4 adapter set to get the 500XT system to mount into the factory track on the Tundra? Thank you
