I'm pretty sure I want a Platinum Crewmax. I plan on using this truck largely as a gentlemans truck until I can accidentally purchase a boat.
(Whoops, sorry honey, I found this boat attached to my truck while driving home from the office. It followed us home, can we keep it?)

The perforated leather sure looks nice, but I wonder how it will wear? Will it wear better/worse than the leather in the limited trim?

Anyone have 100k miles on the perforated leather seats?

I have the limited and about 35k on it. I do treat my seats every 3 months as well.

Love my Platinum seats, and the smell of good leather smacking you in the face every time you get in isn't a bad thing. Then there is the cooled/vented thing, personally would never own any leather seat equipped vehicle without it going forward.

I had leather seats in my 07 limited and had it for about 10 years. The seats all held up well, the stitching was tearing were my butt rests and the seat was I guess you call it tore or worn down to rip(?) were I get in and out on the edge of seat. clean it regularly with maguires leather seat stuff. But for 10 years of use it held up very well after gettin in it wet and sometimes covered in mud.

Funny I hate all toyota leather seats, it's like sitting on a park bench IMO. So I switched out my limited's driver leather to more comfortable OEM factory cloth seatcover. It's way more cushioning to me. My wife's old 2015 limited 4runner leather seats sucked too. I guess I just hate leather, lol

I felt like that on my dad's 2000 limited Tundra. I test drove a 2016 limited and they felt the same. The seats in my Pro feel better to me. My wife's seats in her Lexus NX are much more comfortable. They are the synthetic leather. I think they call it NuLux, but they are much more comfortable than the Toyota leather seats.

If I remember correctly, the Platinum has Lexus leather and the Limited has standard Toyota leather. I would think the Lexus leather would hold up better.

I probably should have sat in the platinum but didn't, I figured they were the same as the limited.

I so agree. I had a Lexus before this with the cooled/heated seats and miss the cooling big time!

Is this a Tundra forum? The truck? I think this is good case of placebo effect. To say the leather on the Platinum is more “comfortable” than Limited or Pro is humorous. You’d literally be saying that to the TOUCH one leather is more “comfortable”.

Now to say that the comfort of cooled seats on a long ride in a hot climate is 100% true. Same goes for the winter.

I test drove exactly 4 Platinums, 3 Limiteds, 2 Pros, and 2 1794s. The ONLY difference I felt was that of the heated/cooled seats which honestly I really liked. In the end I chose the truck that in my opinion had the nicest interior and most aggressive exterior look, but I’m younger. I understand some are a little older and prioritize luxury, but the Tundra is just not it nor has it ever been and thats not secret. You get a Tundra for rock solid reliability. Period. All the tech and luxury (which I’d take if given) is done better by GMC, Dodge, and Ford. How reliable those are is a another topic.

The worst choice anyone can make is getting the 1794 for its leather (although very nice looking). There wasn’t one used 1794 I looked at online or in person that hadn’t peeled off and exposed the black underneath the leather. They are by far the worst leathers as far as durability (yet sooo “soft”). Dont believe me? Go look at some in person. Pictures hide the defects as much as they can. While you’re at it sit on as many Platinums, Limiteds, and Pros so you can feel any differences.

Cloth seats are the way to go. Being a 1st Gen’r and seeing pics of same year trucks as mine with leather they look all beat up. Torn, cracking, and hardened.

Per the OP, I’d steer towards the perforated versions versus solid leather or roll that ‘boat money’ into some customs (Italian Full Grain harvested from the base of the barb wire free Alps).

Get the cheapest covering you can get in a truck and have em wrapped in Katskinz leather. It's typically cheaper than oem and they use quality leather. A friend of mine has a body shop that sells em and I'm hooked. I'm saving the money now for a set.

No one can argue that the cloth are absolutely the most durable, but I will say my fathers 2nd gen gray leathers have little to no sign of wear. He wiped them down with a warm wet cloth followed by some autozone cheap leather conditioner once a year. So its possible to make them last. Granted he's always had running boards and doesn't slide off his truck, damaging the outer edge of seat. That is SO lazy lol. But that exact damage happens to cloth seats if the person slides off seat.

In my opinion there is nothing easier to clean than leather. After owning black cloth seats for 9 years on my Dodge Charger, they stain way too easy. Then your only option is to shampoo the seats. If you try to spot clean the cloth seats you get a visible mark. Even if you dont spill anything on them, they still get a visible dirt and gray tint to them. You have to shampoo cloth. No way around that. Shampoo is a little inconvenient as you have to take it to a detail shop and after they're done they need to let it sit out and dry for hours! The wife's Hyundai came with gray cloth seats. OMG are those things annoying! If rain water falls on them they leave a water mark. Even the perspiration of a water bottle will stain the gray cloth seats. Im absolutely done with cloth. I dont wish that on anyone. Just my two cents

If the leather in our Platinum's is "Lexus" leather then it would be from Premium models not Luxury models. The Lux models have Semi-Aniline leather that is coated and dyed through and through. Not just the surface. The "Nuluxe" leather in the regular models is a high quality synthetic leather but it's not coated or dyed throughout. The leather in the premium models is natural leather but is not coated or dyed through like the Semi-Aniline. I could never find any documentation about Semi-Aniline in the Tundra models. I have to guess that it's a high quality natural leather used in our trucks.

I have the Limited Tundra and I am not impressed with the leather seats so far. They feel too stiff and they don't surround your body which is something I like my seat to do.

They are comfortable enough and they may just take some getting used to. The truck is only 3 weeks old and not my daily. I didn't like my Honda accord leather seats at first either but I love them now.

You are correct, it is high quality Full Gain leather that is used in the Platinum and 1794 Tundras. I was told that is was "Lexus" leather buy a sales person back in 2014 and never verified it, my mistake. So I called 1800-Toyota today and got the correct answer which is its Full Gain Leather.

FYI..The Limited uses Split Leather which is coated and embossed. I also got that answer from 1-800-Toyota

Guys this leather definitely feels softer to the touch, but what good is that when they are significantly less durable? Again all the certified used 1794’s I saw literally had black marks on the driver seat where the leather was worn. They werent ripped at all. Simply worn. You could see the rest of the leather also wearing out and turning black. If this leather was “dyed through and through” why would it be solid black as they faded? Look I fully admit the 1794 leather interior looks the best and I really wanted one. Thats why I visited multiple Toyota dealerships to look at them, but each used 1794 had this exact common damage to the leather. Take that for what its worth. Maybe its not as noticeable on the Platinum leather seats as the leather itself is black.

I test drove both and thought the Platinum was better quality and comfort. It was worth the extra $$$ ... wasn’t even that much more.

Most certainly the stink and mold. Cloth require a shampoo at least once every 2-3 years unless you get them wet often. Then you would need to shampoo them every 6 months to prevent bad smell and mold

The Platinum just felt like it was in that weird middle ground along with the Limited(just fully loaded). To me, on one side of the spectrum you have the TRD Pro and the other end has the 1794. Sort of like a most off road worthy to most luxury/comfort. Would you agree?

1794 and Platinum are the same truck, just different interior color scheme (Wild West). I read reviews where the 1794 leather is dyed and over time showed more wear. Plus I didn’t like it, I prefer black. Limited for me was out the window once I sat in the Platinum seats. Lexus leather vs Toyota ... you can negotiate the price difference. The TRD Pro is a sup’d up SR5. I don’t off road in my Tundra, that’s what my Polaris RZR is for ... so ultimately, I wanted the higher end luxuries.

Minus that sinking feeling in my stomach when filling up the 38 gallon tank, I love this truck!

If the TRD Pro is a upgraded SR5 than the Platinum and 1794 are most certainly just upgraded Limiteds. With the TRD Pro there is limited amount made each year which is why they are rarely seen and their resale value holds the best out of all the trims.

At the end of the day we have to look at why the Toyota Tundra is as popular ad it is. Everyone agrees its their durability. If luxury is your preference, then the Tundra was the one of the worst choices. GMC, Dodge, and Ford trucks have always beat out Toyota in the luxury department. Imagine what 52k+ could buy you in luxury with any of those brands? But we’re all entitled to our opinions.
