The videos made this look really easy but I’ve been unable to line up the screw the the lock piece on the driver’s door. Any advice?? Need to get this fixed ASAP.

There was a post about this. There is something to do with a clip that falls out of place.

I had the same problem bro. Don’t worry, super easy fix.... Get your finger behind where the screw should go. Pull towards you. This piece will pop out and will now align. I had that happen on 2/4 and found the fix on a different forum post.

Search for a forum called help door handle replacement. They have pictures.

betting that the plastic part has slipped back towards the interior of the truck. stick your finger inside the hole where the threaded screw is and push it back towards the outside of the truck. it should have four small post that clip on the exterior of the door. make sure your gasket is lined up as well.

or go take another handle off and look at it and you'll see exactly what you need to do.

Yeah that was pretty nice. Also got my black emblem overlays, a pillar with drivers grab handle and paint to match mirror caps installed. Didn’t think this would be the hardest of all the mods this weekend.

My hande swap out couldn't have been any easier. Maybe try backing out that bolt a good bit.

The bolt is super loose at this point almost to where I could pull it out if there weren’t clips there.

The screw and adapter should never come out. Wish I could help but when I changed mine out I just loosened the set screw and wiggled the handles off.
And with the lock just make sure you don’t have it upside down when reinserting the lock.

I had watched the Sparks Parts video and used a drill like they did. Wondering if I loosened it too much using the drill?

I would NEVER use a drill on this. When you loosen that screw you should be able to just wiggle the handles out. That screw should not be able to come out from it’s adapter.

The screw can’t come out from the adapter since it has the clips holding it in place. But still wish I would’ve just used a screwdriver.

I didn't have any problems changing mine. The only thing i can think of is your handle pushed forward far enough so that it lets that piece line up. I was like you. Nervous the whole time i was doing this.

I can easily get the long handle piece in place and lined up. Should the lock piece snap in when it’s in place? Currently when I try it just kinda sits beside the other piece.

Yeah I’m just gonna do the others and see how the other doors are lined up to see if it helps me figure out the others. Did you use a drill with this project? I think that really messed me up on the driver door. Also the black barrier piece you mentioned already came off when I took the original handle off. I’ve been holding it place when trying to put the handle back in place.

Thanks for all of your help guys. Per your advice I took off the back door of drivers side and I could clearly see what the issue was with the piece not pushed all the way through that lines up the door handle with the torx screw. I went ahead and fixed the driver door then swapped out all the handles in the dark. Will check them in the morning to assure they’re all lined up correctly but other than that we’re good to go. I noticed that right now I can slide the bigger part just the tiniest bit from the small piece so I’m thinking it may need re-aligned tomorrow in the light. Thanks again. Love our community.

Glad everything worked out for you. I had the same issue last week. I woke up the next day and did all four doors within 15 minutes.

I ran into same issue. The driver side door will not line up with the door lock. I cannot screw it back in. I have reset the door handle and come close to alignment, but still I cannot screw in the door lock. Any advice or articles on this? The videos made it look so easy, but with my Tundra it has not been the case.
