What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

New serpentine belt?

 

Thats when mine started. Only squealed during high humidity when engine was first started. Has gotten better over 40k miles but still pops up sometimes. The belt dressing spray helps, but is temporary.

 

Depending on the mileage it might be worth replacing the tensioner and idler pulleys.

 

Good call. This will happen on the next go around in about 30k miles.

No it's the same one as when I bought the truck. It looks fine and is a Toyota belt. I started noticing the squealing when it got cold. I think it's a pulley bearing or something in the right side of the belt system. I sprayed some lubricant on the few pulleys I could reach in there and it helped for like an hour then the squeal came back and I've tried several times since to lubricate to no avail. I'm at my wit's end with it because it's so loud and gets louder as I give it more gas.

 

So o got some belt spray. How do you generally apply it? I can't really reach the belt in most spots

 

You're probably right. I have 205k

 

Aim and shoot. Its a spray can with a straw. Do it with engine off because the rad fan will blow your stream off course if engine is on.

 

Do you spray both side of belt? Do you soak it?

 

Aim for the inside slotted parts. Won’t hurt if it goes on the other side. Doesn’t need soaking. This, again, is a temporary solution. Only lasts for a few days max.

 

Pulled off my camper shell and snorkel and started a little body work. Hopefully I’ll be ready for a nice paint job soon.

 

Very busy day. Washed truck yesterday. Waxed today. I have the chalky paint notorious in early Gen1s, especially white ones. Toyota really shit the bed on painting some of these. I'm lucky that the PO took good care of this one or the paint would look horrible.

Also installed new fog bulbs. Went with Sylvania Silverstar. The old bulbs actually look pretty good so I may not see an improvement.

Also removed the front grill and painted it. It turned out good, not great. There were a few places where the grill told paint to piss off. It wouldn't adhere completely. I'll post more pics in a bit.

Oh, and I partially broke the safety latch for the hood. Having a hard time locating that part#

 

So my tundra died today I was driving down the hwy and going around 55 to 60 and it just died, helps guys to diagnose the problem, turns over but wont start, sounds like its farts at times when trying to turn it on

 

My truck did this once I pulled my battery cables off for about 30 min then hooked them back up and it ran fine. Don’t really know what caused it and it Hasn’t done it since.

 

Was looking at the vivvid stuff the other day which lead me to 3M which costs more and from the reviews is a little (emphasis) easier to put on. Either one requires some skill. I started some research after you had brought up wrapping some interior items. The carbon wrap stuff looks cool. Especially, any colors with a matte finish like your roof. Only drawback I saw was the 5-7 year useful life on the wrap.

 

Took the ol' girl out for a spin in the snow today. Gave the 4wd a workout as I haven't used it much in a few months. Gotta say again...4x4 + studded Nokian Hakkapellitas = glacier climbing.

I did however officially add "get the fucking steering wheel straightened" to my to-do list. I got an alignment done when I had the 5100's installed. The truck track excellent, numbers are good blah blah blah. But my steering wheel is a few degrees off level. When I level the wheel out, the truck pulls to the left. I took it back to the shop a few days after the alignment and they "straightened" it. Didn't do shit imho. Been too busy to really have a go at it since then.

I finally got pissed off with it enough today. It bugs the hell out me. I spent some time online but it doesn't look like a simple job to just pop the steering wheel off, and straighten it out. Going to have to take it to a different shop and be a pain in the ass OCD owner I guess. Probably mark where I want it, specify not to correct for road crown and tell them to expect me to be a pain. LOL

 

Put the first coat of red highlighting on the side trim. 2 more coats to go. Subtle is the goal.

Here are a few more pics with the grill installed. I must say, I'm quite pleased. Now I just need to decide what to do with the rest of the bumper and trim. I can't decide if I want to leave the chrome or try to plasti dip it. I used Meguiars Ultimate Black on the trim today. It's a decent temporary fix.

 

I'm not a fan of chrome but your chrome bumper looks really clean and suits the truck nicely. Also, the grill looks great. But if you paint the bumper I'd say paint all the other chrome parts too so it all matches together nicely

 

I have the same issue. May have happened while driving in CA and being pissed off at the toll roads and running into a curb while trying to U turn... (btw, we need the whistling emoticon added to our list).

 

Could it be the alternator?

 

I will have to take it off and get it tested to check, because before the interior dome lights would flicker to the rhythm of the blinker, also would be dimmed and if I gave it gas in park they would brighten up, so could be alternator, I'll just have to work on it over the new year day off

Always had 18v for battery when the truck was on already never dropped

 

Swapped the Clear 3157LL side marker bulbs over to Amber Color to complete the look. The clear bulbs blended to much into the headlamp lights and did not provide much distinction when at a straight on angle. The new bulb number is 4157LL per the auto store computer. Very happy with it all. Pic below is Clear bulb on passenger side and Amber on the drivers side. Looks more distinct in person.



Bought a new Milwaukee LED work light for Christmas. Its the cube style with a clamp and magnetic catches. The lens swivels.

 

How many miles you have on your truck? I heard our alternators are good for around 200k miles. Hope you get it worked out.

Went to go pick up some work tools for tomorrow went to try go crank it, and it got weaker to crank like if the battery is going dead on it
