First, I'm sorry to create another post on these, but I couldn't find what I was looking for going through other posts.

I have the SR5, so I don't have DRLs. When my lights are off, the yellow amber light is lite up as my DRL. If I got the Spyder headlights, would that white DRL bar work on it when my lights are off, or only come on when I turned the full headlights on? I couldn't find a clear answer to that in other posts.

Can someone who has these on an SR5 fill me in on how they work. Thanks..!

    **not my photo or truck

The white LED bar is not a DRL regardless if your truck has DRLs or not. It only comes on when you turn your parking lights or headlights on.

Thanks. With my lights off that amber light is on, when I turn the [IMG] parking lights on, it doesn't do anything. Just the same amber light. I guess that's normal? But if I got those lights, turning the parking light on will at least illuminate the white bar.

Is there a way to tap that white led bar into the original amber light?

Sounds to me like you have DRLs, If the amber light (turn signal) comes on without the headlights or parking lights. The one thing that is a little deceiving in the spyder pics is that white led bar is not that bright. So if you turned your parking lights on during the day to illuminate it you would barely be able to tell it was on

Just a few, more to come
Inner amber is DRL (even on my SR5), the accent bar turns on when you switch your lights to the running/parking light setting, then when you go to low beams the projector in the Spyder comes on and the accent bar stays as well.

Ok, so what is lite up when your lights are off? So I'll have to turn the parking light on to get that bar to light up. Is that what you do when you drive, turn your parking light on during the day?

I see, so its more about the over all look of the headlight and less about the look and function of that white bar being on?

The lights should light up the same as they do now with nothing turned on. I usually don't drive with the parking lights on during the day. Sometimes in the evening when it's not dark enough for the headlights.

I have DRL Switchbacks too so my DRLs are white and turn amber when I activate the turn singal

I just bring it up because I've seen Tundra's that have the LED DRL and I found out they are only on the Limited and above models. My wife has the Tacoma TRD Sport and her LED DRLs are beautiful and bright. I'm just looking for something to give me that similar look.

Oh I dont deny that. I guess I was just thinking that the light bar part was brighter and hoping to be on as my DRL when my parking light and headlights where off.

How long have you guys had your headlights? I've heard they dont last very long and start peeling? Not sure what that's about, and maybe they meant the bulbs dont last long. Did anyone change them out with brighter or LED lights?

I've never heard that about spyders. There are a few imitations on ebay that are probably crap. I've had mine over a year now and no issues. @ToyTec Lifts put VLeds in his spyders

A retrofit with an LED DRL switchback will give you the OEM look that your wife's Tacoma has. You would have to wire them appropriately.

I havent heard of anyone that has done this, but I would imagine you could also buy platinum headlights and wire up the OEM LED DRLs from accessory power. They wouldn't be plug and play BC your truck doesn't have the wiring for them.

Yeah, I have no clue how to do that though. Not sure anyone around here that can do it. But that is an idea.

I did think about getting the other factory headlights. Couldn't be that hard to wire them in so they are always on. Humm..

for the price of the spyders you cant go wrong they look great and should last a few years at least when I bought them I honestly didn't expect them to last forever I figure if I can get about 2 or 3 years outta them I will be happy by then Im sure I will want something else but that's just me

I always tell people not to waste money on Spyder lights. Sure they look great, but they arent no brighter than OEM and they wont last as long as OEM. Just retrofit your existing OEM lights. For $100 bucks more ($550) you can get your OEM lights retrofitted with Mini D2S Projectors and any color paint scheme you would like (Excluding color matched). Not only do they look much better, but they provide 10 times more light output than Spyders, and they will last as long as your truck.

I'd be down for doing that to add the LED DRL but not sure where to get it done. Obviously can't send it in somewhere and not have them on the truck for driving, ha. Have to look around town for someone, humm..

@eledobleu posts pics of his work on here, some have LED DRLs. You would probably have to park the truck for a few days unless you buy an existing pair he has for sale, if he has any.

He might even have a loaner set. In the meantime I'll run with my Spyders and will possibly retrofit my OEM's in the future.
