TRD Pro shock leaking?

I bought these a few weeks ago and haven't had the time to put them on because I've been working a lot so they have just been sitting around. I didn't notice at first but when I pick them up the other day some fluid seem to drip out of the plastic shock cover. The guy I bought them off of said they only had a few thousand miles on them and they look practically new. They also seem to compress and recoil well. Is this normal? Should I be worried?

 

Veg hed is in WY. Not too far from CO Springs. Nice trip at worst. Maybe you can give Veggie and some of us local CO guys a lesson on shock rebuild. (Sorry, Chris, but you opened that door wide open....heh...heh)

 

Does that mean they need rebuilt?

 

Generally speaking when shocks leak there is a problem. Is this a cause of leaking oil or just some liquid that was stuck inside the boot from cleaning by the previous owner?

With that being said I'm not a suspension guru, but some of the guys on here are, hopefully they chime in.

Maybe some more pictures of exactly where it looks like the oil is coming from would help.

Shit happens but I find it hard to believe they would be leaking unless he was really beating his truck up.

 

@jberry813 and @ColoradoTJ are the guys to answer that. I'm not even a novice when it comes to rebuilding shocks like yours.

 

The "leaking" thing bothers me some what too. Maybe a pic with the boots off ?

 

They may be ok, look at Bilsteins site for warranty requirements. There is a certain amount of oil deemed normal to leak, and having owned quite a few, about 1/4 had leaked oil in the box on shipping. They all performed fine.

 

Good to know. I always thought once a leak always a leak with suspension, if a seal is bad it is bad until it is replaced.

Thanks for all the input guys. All I have been thinkin about is how badass my truck is going to look when I get the lift on and now this. I'm on another wildfire in Wyoming for the next 2 weeks so maybe when I get back I can finally get the lift and Pro rims on. I am going to try to contact Bilstein direct to see what they say. I'll keep you all posted.
