Double Cab RockSliders (AC soon)

first post, i thought ide share with you guys my current project for my DC tundra.
and if anyones interested i can make more!

my background is in desert trucks. my daily was a fully caged V8 ranger i built for many years, but after a while i wanted something nice to drive again.
my good buddy is ESB mike, anyone in desert racing knows him as THE toyota fabrication god, after a 10year hiatus hes back to designing toyota stuff again. and *hint my tundra wont be stock for too long. however, this build will go a more overland/desert direction. and trust me he has some stuff in the works thats incredible. (follow on insta ESBfabrications)


About these double cab sliders:

-80lbs per side
-10 grade 8 bolts per side, using factory holes. no welding, no drilling required. full bolt-on.
-tig welded
-all tubing is .120 wall, mild
-frame overlay plate strengthens frame from flex and sag
*solidworks drawings show 10deg kick, i went flat


IF anyone would like to buy the proto set, im located in san diego. $750 including hardware (around $50). i could use the money to buy more metal and build another 3 sets hopefully!

im hoping in about a month ill have time to put into the access cab.
the frame is basically the same, some stuff like rivets, holes for brackets, are just spaced a little different horizontally. and i think i noticed one frame hole isnt there on the access cab that is for the double, so one hole may have to be drilled out on each side.
definitely way more access cabs out there!
i had fun making these, if i could build a few more sets, thats some gas&beer money! haha

 

Welcome! I'm also in San Diego, and would have loved to have tried these- but just bought some SDHQ. Love the looks of these-- best characteristics of sdhq and and the all-Pro kick out at the back. I think others may jump at this!!

Do you want to do other fab-? I know a few guys lookin' to get some custom metal done in the SD and Riverside areas.... If you live here and go to school in Pamona... you'd b accessible to both?

thank you @Sunnier so yeah my parents have a machine shop in san marcos, we do a lot of sub work for waterjet, not our main thing but since we have the equipment. also have a press brake, so if need metal plate cut and bent. im not a pro welder by any means but i try haha. we had a pro welder til this week actually. so yeah i can try to coordinate with schedule going down there, cut stuff and bring parts back. machine table is 24x48in.
myself personally, no free time right now with engineering for anything else, lucky i even got to sleep last week lol

 

I have been looking for sliders for my 2005 DC forever. These are some great looking ones. On the kickout at the rear, could you kick it up so it offered a bit of side protection

 

@chris not totally sure what youre wanting, do you have a pic for reference? some sliders get pretty serious

These are nice! I had the hardest time finding a set for my dc a few years back but luckily found a local fab guy build me a set.

Good that there are more options for us 1st gen dc owners now.

Do you plan to make them for any other toyota vehicles besides tundra's?

 

Do you make these with fill plates?

 

Just curious, is this a project for your engineering class? I just took intro to engineering and had to do a design project.

 

Hey everyone, sorry for the hiatus. I finished up with engineering degree. Finally had some time, so i whipped up another set.
Changes are:
Frame plate is now a J shape, it has an extra lip, over the L shape.
The 2x2 is now 0.188wall. And the ends get an angle cut.
Ill be selling the set off my truck (DM me), and keeping the newest set as display.
Considering the work into these, i disnt want to weld em myself. And our welder audel knocked these outta the park.

 

Going to be a shame to cover those welds with paint or powder..

 

theres a clever way they bolt up. buy a set and see! haha

actually my first project was for a intro Cad class, and i did some drop hangers and extended shackles for rangers.
i really liked how easy it was to put your ideas into solidworks/cad and kept at it!

 

Esb... As a former Toyota pickup (pre Tacoma) guy, I've never heard of him. Much sarcasm implied.

I started doing more and more work on the fly at home without solidworks and it's like going from a beautiful motorcycle to a little push tricycle. 3d cad is a gift from the fabrication gods. I couldn't get 95% of my work done without it and the 5% is mostly g jobs at home and not the office.

 

Hell yeah! EsbMike is the man.
He has a 4x4 +3.5, 4.5, 5.5 tundra/tacoma kit.
So bitchin, uses the 90s 4x4 pickup hubs and spindle, which are race grade, and adapts tundra rotors and calipers onto that. Nobody does what he does! And you can use the hubs from a solidaxle and instep the wms 1in. So could have a 5.5 kit travel, with 4.5 trackwidth. Theres literally no cv bind either, what limits drop is the uca.

And the funniest thing is he just started cad this year! So ive been helping him out. Like the tundra taco kit. Everything hes ever done was designed in his head and drawn to insane detail on paper like a draftsman. Ive had an engineer tell me Esb understands math in his head the rest of us dont even on paper. Sounds about right lol. Follow his insta, rad stuff. EsbFabrications

 

That's actually pretty funny. Sounds about like me when I started in solidworks. Before that I had only done 2d stuff for cutting. If you can think it through in real life then the 3d cad seems to come easier. The opposite is not even close to true. I've seen too many engineers that can't tie a shoe without a class at a university first.

I basically started out my off-road go fast life drooling over the esb Toyota stuff for the pre 95. It was pretty much the coolest stuff around and on DR esb was like a legend. I remember every once in a while you'd find someone that snagged up a set of used esb arms and throw them on a new build instead of buying something new. Unless you understood the legend you'd think they had bent over a dollar to pick up a dime.

Were you looking at the infamous 19" kit back then?
And yeah, anything he touched was gold, Dan vances truck is testament enough. Bonzens taco is 1 of3 with the 21" kit and he fits blackhawk bypsses. Jigs got lost tho. Like u said, if a kit like that ever came up like on racedezert, it would be gone in 1hour lol. Nobody has made anything quite like esb for toyotas thats for sure!

 

so how much for your 1st set shipped to Idaho 83815??? May want sliders instead of steps or nerf bar. I'm assuming these are pretty heavy?

Theyre about 85lb each.

 

Looking to get 900 for the current set on the truck (forum price).
The only difference with this set is i tried to kick the round tubes at closer to 20deg instead of 30 just so see if i liked it, and i welded them, not our welder guy. It has the J-shape frame plate.
Primered then rustoleum hamertone paint.

Might seem a little pricey, but nobody else is tig welding them up. most sliders are just welded to the frame, (unless u got a sawzall, thats permanent). That frame plate is extra material, waterjet and bending time for bolt-on ability and frame reinforcement.
Theres just more invoved on these.
Quality aint cheap!
Plus the cost of steel is up like 60% from 2yrs ago, alum is double. Spend something like 350 just in material on these. My buddy ESB bend and notches the round tubes. In the end im barley making anything on these. Just for fun!!

And trust that theres a neat add-on feature coming.

Right on man! Theres definitely waay more AC tundras than DC's.
i just finished up with school, so ill have some time now to pattern the frame.
Honestly if i had a sema license i could download the frame and have some sliders designed up in a few hours.
But i have to pattern the frame by hand, and the DC took me like 3tries, proto is close, but this or that hole needs to be moved .1", recut new peice, check hole alignment, move holes again.. i cut some thin wood backerboard material as test since super cheap.

 

Oh wow, didn't realize they would be more than nerf bars...I just like the look of these way more than nerf bars but neither is worth more than $250 to me just so my little girls can step up into the truck. I'll continue to lift them

 

I would imagine the material alone is close to $250. You can thank the recent tariffs. Your best bet is to pick up some used step bars off Facebook or Craigslist. I ended up giving a pair away earlier this year.

 

Depends where it comes from I guess. I think most of our tubing at work comes from Korea. DOM isn't cheap no matter what though. At least not in the quantities we order it in and that's from a vendor we buy quite a bit from. Long story short, yeah the material is probably at $250 haha. I think that's about what I budgeted for mine when I get to them.
