Pedal commander ?

I purchased one through Amazon today. Even paid the extra $3 to get it shipped to me before the 25th. Merry Christmas to me!

For those already running it, what setting have you settled on for your daily driving?

 

city @ 0. but where I live, there are many, many idiots - so I only jack it up when there's no one around

 

I've been on City +2 for a week or so and that's probably where I'll leave it for my daily driving. Throttle response at that setting is quick but smooth and has yielded a consistent increase of. 7 to 1 mpg. That's according to the trip computer, I haven't hand calculated my mileage since installing it.

 

I’m at sport +1. I’m probably going to drop down to city +2 tomorrow. I’ve just been having fun having a truck that responds that it’s hard to go down a couple notches but I’m sure my fuel gauge with appreciate the change.

 

I started with sport plus/+4 aka beast mode lol. Too freaking sensitive! Couldn't get the throttle response smooth while driving around town so went down to city/+4. I like this setting for daily driving. The response is quick and smooth.

 

This might be a dumb question, but I'm curious to know...does the pedal commander cause the rpm's to rev up higher before shifting (similar to pressing the tow/haul button) under normal driving? If the pedal commander is relaying more throttle does that in turn make the truck hold gear longer before shifting?

 

I haven’t noticed any change in shift patterns.

That's because all the old people complained and got the throttle toned down for "smoother acceleration" that's why I love my 2nd gen. With that being said I get your point. I think you can change the pedal assembly itself

 

I just installed it and wow. Sport+1 is fun but a little touchy.

Whelp, that is a good question. With mine it most definitely messed with the shifts between 30-40mph. it is constantly shifting and causing me grief. it also is messing with shifts at 50-60mph. I've tried different setting, but not much different. Also a couple of time when I had it in Sport mode, it developed a huge dead spot in the peddle at low rpms, enough that I thought I borked the trans or ECU. I switched modes and it seems ok now.
long story, short.. I just returned mine today. ;-/ I think you do need a tuner one that remaps the trans too.

Guess I’ll have to pay attention to my shifts more. I haven’t noticed any of these issues, yet.

 

I haven't noticed a difference in shift patterns. On city +2 the shift points are right where they always were. If I'm on the gas it holds a gear longer, just as it would if I were in tow/haul. Sport+ +4 definitely holds longer in a gear, especially if I'm on it, but i guess I expected that. I haven't experienced any abnormal shifting though.

 

I kind of wonder if the 2014 specifically is a little mixed up on the shifts being the first year of gen 3. i notice different, sometimes odd, shifting when compared to my 2007. nothing seems wrong, just too aggressively trying to get into higher gears. i need to test drive a newer truck and see if it is any different.

 

Installed mine today.

First impressions: As others have mentioned, City mode (+ / - whatever) seems to be how the truck should have come from the factory. Superb response from the throttle / gas pedal without being jumpy. No lag at all.

Sport+ mode is just ridiculous! Unless I'm out in the middle of nowhere with no one around I can't see me using it. This setting definitely won't be getting much use driving around in the burbs where I live. Any kind of stop and go traffic would be a nightmarish task on this setting. Turn off the nannies and you'll definitely chirp the tires more often than not from a standstill.

Overall I'm very impressed. I'll probably play around with the settings some more when I have the time but my guess is I'll settle somewhere in the City +1 to +3 range for my daily driving needs. It won't add HP and a tune is probably more ideal for a good number of people, but I'd recommend it for anyone looking to improve throttle response and who isn't looking to run premium gasoline all of the time.

 

City+2 works for me every day driving.

 

I have been using regular sport mode and have been happy. It’s enough to get some of the lag out without snapping you head back or being jumpy.

Question though. If I have larger tires and wanted a hypertech calibrator. Would a tuner adjust for tire size as well as do the same as the pedal commander? It’s basically $600 for a tuner. PC is $265 along with hypertech that’s $220 is almost the same price. Would you get more out of the tuner?

 

I have the Tune and can't see how the Commander would make it any more responsive.

 

Not sure if Bully corrects the speedo when running larger tires but DAP definitely does not. Hypertech is the only thing I've heard about that'll do it. I adjusted my speed using my GPS app and figured it's always 5MPH on top of what my speedo shows - saved me $200+
I highly recommend the DAP Tune as it also adjust shift points while vastly improving throttle response.

 

I know the shift points will adjust to the larger tires with the hypertech. Right now their off a little since the ecu thinks I’m running 275/55/20’s instead of the 285/65/20’s I have on.

Read the DAP isn’t available on the 18’s yet either which sucks

 

Shrek usually does 2 years worth of R&D before he puts out a tune file. Sit tight - it’s comin

 

UPDATE: Turned the Pedal Commander off for a few minutes today while driving the kids around. I've had it on City +1 for a few days now. Man, the stock throttle response is TERRIBLE by comparison. I've had the truck for about 6 months now and didn't realize how bad it was until going from City +1 back to stock. The truck feels SLOW.

I have to take it out because I'm off to the dealership tomorrow to have my passenger side cam tower leak diagnosed, but as soon I am able this thing is going back in the truck. Definitely worth the $$$.

 

I've only had it for a few weeks so it is possible I'm wrong. But, can't you just turn it off and leave it hooked up via bluetooth?

 

I am sure you can just have it on Bluetooth but a lot of dealers will blame any reported issues on anything aftermarket. That's what so nice about the PC, just unplug and put the truck back to stock in seconds.

 

Good point. My 10k service is soon will have to do that.

I took it out just to eliminate any hassle I might get from the dealership if they happened to see it. It takes two minutes to install / uninstall so why take any chances?

I've had mine for almost a year now on my 4.6. It definetly has been a plus for acceleration and compensating for larger tires.
