NTF from NC

Hello folks......new person to forum. I joined another forum the other day but it is not all that active or at least I have not received many replies so I found this forum to join.

My dilemma is simple I think. I hope to purchase a TT in the weight range of 8500 lbs. dry and need a great truck to tow without hesitation. I wonder if I would be better served with the diesel format????

I have owned Toyotas now for 29 years, probably longer than some of you have been alive, LOL!

I currently have a 2005 Toyota Sequoia Limited but it will not pull such a weight so I am looking for the best truck for such a task. I love the Tundra and love Toyotas! I come from a family that has them and we know how well made they are but when it comes to working trucks most things come back to the American made work horses.

So with that said, I am going to post some questions on the appropriate threads and hopefully those with experience can chime in.

Hope to get a lot out of this forum and questions answered.

8500 dry? The 5.7 with tow pkg has a towing capability of 10,500 lbs. I would say depending on what you're towing!! LOL

But on the flip side, we do have an awesome truck

 

The dry weight of the travel trailer. That is assuming not loaded with items nor the water tanks filled prior to transporting. I would definitely be looking to a 4x4 Crewmax for sure and I think that model drops in towing capacity doesn't it? Thanks for the reply and welcome.

I was thinking loaded down plus an extra truck hitched to the trailer. (For that, you'd probably need a diesel) but with just food and y'all's luggage, it would be cutting it close and probably struggle on inclined grades

If you decide to go with the tundra, I would invest in some airbags for sure!

 

Not to talk you out of a Tundra but at 8,500 dry plus say 500-800 pounds of gear, water, propane and other creature comforts you would be cutting is close. I towed a ~3,500 pound 19' Airstream Bambi with my 2004 Tacoma and with gear and everything I was at around 4,400 pounds. Still below what the max towing is but the Tacoma was struggling. This is one reason I upgraded to a Tundra.

 

That is what I am thinking. My other consideration is a GMC Sierra 2500HD Duramax diesel but hear hit and miss things all over the field on some quality issues. Not real bad things but some are on them.

Wonder why Toyota has not entered the diesel world of big trucks???????

 

They probably will eventually depending on the market, over saturation, consumer demand, etc. There's been rumors for a while now, but thus far, that's all it's been. Rumors.
